I'm so excited to see that Jane & Darko's cozy thicket made it into the top 3!

Cool. My favorite tied for first.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who exposed their homes to scrutiny. I got tons of great ideas.

Fantastic contest, great designs all around!

Just curious; of the top-4 how many are condos or tenant-owned? 1, 2 & 3 seem to be...

Congratulations to the winners (who were both in my top list!) and a sincere thank you to everyone who entered the contest and exposed their homes to all the commentary and judging in this contest.

Whoops! Congrats also to numbers 3 and 4, which I loved!

Actually, Curious, David and Im have said numerous times that they're in a rental.

Congrats to all of the winners as well as everyone willing to open up their apartments to our criticisms.

Congratulations! I am pleased with the results, and impressed that the top two were tied, I tink that's a good call.

Cheers to ALL who entered!

Fantastic results! I just love the top three and continue to be amused and inspired as I browse through Jane & Darko's space. (that shot of your beautiful red table with lamp above gets me every time, love it!!)

Jenny & Clove, please share photos of what you do with your garden this summer! I just love your space too.

David & Im, creative, unique, and stylish. I'm so happy that you took first place along with Jenny & Clove. Your video makes me smile. : )

Congratulations to all and a big THANK YOU to everyone who shared their spaces.

WOW!
great news to wake up to!

we feel very, very, very honored. the competition was stiff and the wide variety of spaces must have made it a tough job for the judges. we'd love to hear some of their comments as well...

congratulations to jenny + clove, jane + darko, hakarl + jili, who proved better living through ingenuity!

ps. curious: we are renters.

I hope all the winners will grace us with pictures of their DWR purchases so we can see how they fit into their homes.

Congrats, guys!

Congrats to the winners.

The irony of this contest is that the winners get to go buy more furniture.... and thus destroy the prizewinning design.

great!~ I think you all have great places and a lot of courage to let us all look and comment. congratulations.

Congratulations everyone!

I'm sad the contest is now officially over, but would really like to AT do updates w/ the winners and see how they use their dwr prizes to improve their apartments. Expecting great things w/ that outdoor space from Jenny & Clove!!!!

In response to poster "me" -

The award amounts don't go all that far at DWR stores. Or, one could buy a new mattress and not change anything in the winning designs.

posted by Congrats to winners! on 2006-04-21 10:56:05

Or they could get themselves a little bebe! DWR has v. stylist baby stuff these days.

Congratulations, winners! I thought all four finalists were great, but my particular favorites were Jane & Darko and Hakarl & Jili, because I loved the colors and the quirkiness.

Thanks for the contest and the party, Maxwell!

And, while I feel that I am sounding superficial by commenting on everyone's looks (especially given my comment about Matt in the other thread), Sara Kate is just stunning, Nora is very elegant (as befits someone named after Nora Charles), and Jill has fantastic fashion sense. Surely you have one of the best-looking blog staffs around!

hi all, we (the Thicket) are thrilled! and it was a lovely evening at DWR, where we briefly met Hakarl & Jili as well, and had some great free wine. thanks to all of you who were apparently sending your good thoughts our way, it worked! ;)

and congrats to all the winners *and* finalists *and* anyone who sent their home in to be scrutinized; i am really impressed by everyone's homes and courage.

posted by Jane on 2006-04-21 11:07:34

i think the choice of winners was spot on. i'm especially happy to see jenny and clove's space in the top two - every time i looked at it again, i found more to love. great job, everyone.

and don't forget - the real prize, for all of the finalists, is that you get to wake up in your great spaces, and enjoy them, every day.

Why did AT have a tie for first place?

Takes away the competiveness of the competition.

Huzzah! My pick for #1 won! Man, I don't know how you all chose the winners. Perhaps next time we should start a pool...

I want to echo the comments applauding all the brave souls who entered. I did not envy the judges' task in this contest because there were so many amazing entries. Whatever potshots were lobbed hopefully bounced off because there was so much to admire in so many entries.

Please brag about your DWR purchases; if not we will all just show up on your doorstep one day to check up on you!

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who submitted an entry! Wonderful apartments. Nice party. And yes, Sara Kate is absolutely stunning.

wow. thank you guys for all your support -- this has been a truly great experience! we're so thrilled to have made it to the top 4.
given the stiff competition, i would have had a hard time picking the winners. there were just so many great entries!

i had a blast at the party yesterday night, especially meeting some of you in person. plus we were interviewed by japan TV! Good wine, snacks and interesting people... Apartment Therapy rocks!

posted by hakarl on 2006-04-21 12:23:14

Maxwell explained it very carefully and it all made sense. Be danged if I can remember what it was, but it was a very careful little formula and he said it was all very clear, and it made perfect sense to everyone there, so I think it all worked out in a way that made sense.

Anyway... I also had the pleasure of meeting Tat and Jackie and seeing Ruth, whom I think I had maybe met once before? And Nora once more, and now both of them, as well Hakarl and Jili (as I mentioned earlier) and that the lovely Jill and Molly (Scavenger) are now pleasantly well-fixed in my mind's eye, which further enhances the fun of reading postings here, along with the gallery of other faces that were already familiar like Fiona, jimkk, P2 and I'm probably forgetting someone; it was a lovely time. Sara Kate looks, by the way, like a movie star who's expecting, as you might have expected -- actually more of a TV star, because she seems sweeter than a movie star would be. (Kind of didn't mean for that whole spiel to sound like SUCH a roll call!)

posted by Curtis on 2006-04-21 12:40:16

By the way... methinx that as gorgeous as all the winning apartments were, just because we may think they did such a great job that they don't need it, doesn't mean that the resourceful minds that created those designs won't somehow figure out some way to incorporate the DWR furniture into those spaces without diminishing them! We reaelly must have follow-up posts about them.

Awesome! Loved all of the Final Four! Congratulations to all.

posted by Terry on 2006-04-21 13:31:36

Congratulations to all the final four winners! There were so many entries I really liked this year it's not surprising that all four were among my favorites. I certainly didn't envy the judges narrowing down.

posted by jimkk on 2006-04-21 14:11:16

Well, Terry, we were warned we'd be surprised.

These are the four I expected (not my faves, but the ones I expected), and I didn't post that prediction because I slapped myself for being cynical about there being an AT "look." But there does seem to be one.

That said, they *are* lovely and functional apartments, well worthy of accolades. And if I'm going to pride myself on being quirky and eccentric, I ought to be pleased that my faves were not necessarily the judges' choices.

Congrats to the winners! Don't forget to tell us all what you did with your DWR prizes!

What impressed me the most about David and Im's place is that they rent, and that the work they did is nondestructive (since they'll eventually have to take it all down when they move out... what a crime that will be!) For me, that's worth first place. Then again, the LAish Pad blew me away too! And The Thicket! I'm a little surprised Greg and Em didn't make the top 4. They did such an amazing job that they changed my opinion of the possibilities with older spaces. I thank them for that.

God did I love looking in on everyone's homes last month!

Again, congrats to all. Woo hoo!

Wow, unbelievable. We just found an internet cafe here on Mykonos & fell backward off our chairs. Thank you so much!!! We are dancing in the streets. This couldn't have come at a better time for us. We have been working on the theatrical production from hell & trying to figure out how to air freight 5000 lbs of colored sand from the States to Athens by next Thursday. Think very very expensive.

Our big regret is that we weren't able to attend the party & we both hope to meet you all sometime soon in person. Maybe a garden party?!

It was humbling for us to be named finalist. We never dreamed of making the top four! Clove & I extend our hearty congratulations to all the contestants & our fellow prize winners. Thank you to everyone for sharing your homes. We got tons of ideas.

We would also like to say how much we appreciate the very difficult task of judging this thing. With so many incredible spaces, we can't imagine trying to pick among them. WE LOVE THEM ALL (in our hearts, Shauna you are still #1). Big congratulations & thanks to Maxwell & everybody at AT on pulling off a great contest. Who knew how heated this thing would get?

We promise to work hard on our backyard & share the results. We hope it will live up to the expectation. We will need to save up more $$$, but this really helps! We'd love to include the community in the process of making it happen.
Sorry this is so long, we don't know the next time we'll have internet access.
WE ARE SO JAZZED
