(This is the fifth of our 6 honorable mentions, which go to submissions that did not make the finals. They are awarded purely at the judge's discretion. Each honorable mention receives a special gift from DWR.)
From Craig Olson:
Craftsman Bungalows are rife on the West Coast and frankly have never appealed that much to me due to their typically small windows and snug spaces. Especially living in the Pacific Northwest (where natural light is cool and grey much of the year)--I can’t imagine really living in one. That said EW's LA Bungalow is bright and welcoming, with white paint used liberally to expand and neutralize the space...."

Not that this isn't a great place, but come on. Three of the five honorable mentions went to houses in an apartment contest. I wonder if house therapy is racking up apartment winners in its house contest
This is apartment therapy, but I don't think the space had to be an apartment--just under a certain size. I have an apartment, but I don't care. A small space is a small space, no matter what.
That potentially means then that THE FINALISTS stand a greater chance of being, indeed, apartments.
Are people not getting that the Honorable mentions are out of the running for the big prizes?
I think that the evolution of the way these contests are being run is at least "directionally correct" as a boss once said. I think it's making sense at the moment, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out.
C'mon guys, let's not quibble over house v. apartment. Point is, they all fit the specifications and are beautifully executed. I've enjoyed seeing the creativity employed by the entrants!
