Foolproof your voting system is not. I just want to point out, that by deleting your cookies you can vote as many times as you want.

For people reading this, give it a try and see what you think. If you are in internet explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Temporary Internet Files -> Delete Cookies. Refresh the page, re-login, and re vote. Anyone could create a dummy account a vote up any entry they wanted.

You guys could be logging IP address and UserNames, but it is just as easy to prevent this from being possible in the first place. I really hate to be the downer, but before we get this thing going you really ought to tighten this glaring hole in your voting system.

Also, if you have multiple browsers on your computer, (IE, Opera, Firefox) you can vote from each of them without even deleting your cookies.

Please please please, heed this warning, or else people will forever think that the contest is unfair. This contest is considered by most people to be the most important amateur design contest on the internet. Everyone wants to gain exposure, prove themselves, and show the world that even amateur designers can pull off professional spaces. AT, please put as much effort towards this contest as the people who enter it are putting forth.

This message has been forwarded to support.

The voting system doesn't seem to work with Safari for Mac (but no problems with Firefox)...

I was able to vote and I use Safari on a Mac (w/Tiger).

Please...no more of anyone named Hilton or any of their scummy acquaintances either!

I was able to vote once on my PC and once on my Mac (Safari) - even after logging in.

Just confirming that after clearing my AT cookie and logging back in on this site, I was able to vote for the second time, just as Eric described.

Voting aside, I personally love home offices. Desks...boxes... lighting... chairs... yum.

But given how right now our home offices are merged with the living room, living room it is! :P

"This contest is considered by most people to be the most important amateur design contest on the internet."

Is this serious? Honest question. I thought this was for fun and inspiration?

you can vote again if you delete your cookie or switch browsers, but your vote only actually registers once in the system...you'll notice that the answer count does not increase.

Mark,

Thanks for the clarification. You are right, I just tried again and was not able to increase the vote count. Thanks. I am glad to know the voting will be fair.

I am sure Eric wants the contest to be fun too. I don't know if you have ever participated in sports or not, but the game is only fun if it is fair for both teams. The more fair the game, the more fun.

Also, consider the people who have spent a considerable amount of time and effort to put their places together. Not only that, but with a first prize of $2500, that is more than some people make in a month. It is a considerable prize so people are going to take it seriously.

ScottB and curlygirl, did you enter the contest?

FYI - I voted on the main AT page with noproblems. Then when I clicked into the link (not sure the terminology here..) to view the full article, I was able to vote again, and the count went up by one.

In all honesty, I was going to but got pretty freaked out by it being the most important amateur design contest on the internet. I was wavering anyway -- I just moved in 2 months ago, so my place will probably benefit from a year of being lived in and I'll enter next year. I was thinking that prize money would help me finish up, but I think you basically need to be "complete" to win this anyway.

I'm just here for the inspiration now.

I just verified that your answer was only recorded in the system once...the counter may have gone up because someone else voted in the time that you re-voted. Rest assured, a user's answers are only recorded once per survey.

Okay. If Paris Hilton shows up on this site again, I seriously will be considering banishing APT Therapy from my reading list. I understand the tongue in cheek and all...but I just can't take her getting any more exposure, particularly on a site I'm looking to for inspiration.
