Contest Master here. For my first major act as Contest Master, I hereby decree the new deadline for submissions to the 2007 Smallest Coolest Contest to be midnight (eastern standard time) Monday, April 16th.
While I know that many of you are waiting til tomorrow to submit your great small spaces, there are likely many others who haven't had the time to get it together.
We will still start posting entries next Monday, April 9th, and we will still start the voting then.
Please don't delay. Don't underestimate your talents. And don't worry. It'll be fun. Share your world with us. Enter your home, kitchen, nursery, or office/tech environment now!
If you have any questions, send them to contestmaster AT apartmenttherapy DOT com

As of today's mail how many entries did you get?
Please mention tomorrow how many you received by the "real" deadline too.
It's funny to find out that it IS all about ego and that people don't think about entering until they compare themselves to the other entries. I would have thought the archives would be all that one would need...hmmm.

Hi Lisa,
We received 17 beautiful entries. A far cry from the hundreds we recieved last year. It seems that a visible competitor is much more influential and inspiring than the theoretical competitor.

Soooooo... despite the huge uproar about the "advantage" of being posted early, most potential contestants want to see the early entries before they submit...
You're doing the right thing, of course; if the populace doesn't want the controls they say they want, you have to go with the flow and work out what they do want.
Yay, Jill!

Woo hoo! My place is a disaster right now. Too many labs & exams to have time to keep it tidy :D Now I will have time to get it together before the deadline! Thanks a bunch!

YAY!!! Thanks for the extension! now i'll be able to pull my place together and enter. i calculated my sq.footage yesterday and found out i'm in 273sq.ft! no wonder its been such a struggle to get organized and all settled in.

I hope this means that the number of entries this year won't be overwhelming for us viewers, as they seemed to be last year.

yaay! I can't wait-- I'm itchin' to vote... and not do work while at work. :P

I have to agree with Pixie at least in that the number of entries last year seemed overwhelming, but I hope there are still plenty to admire and inspire us this year under the current setup.
Sigh, I only wish my apartment was anywhere near the condition to enter. Maybe if there is a contest for most in need of a Cure ;-).

While I have no desire - whatsoever - to submit my super-fabu, 485 sq foot bungalow into the contest I am SO looking forward to the contest.
Are there going to be any posting guidelines? (No, not rules. Just guidelines.)
For Example:
1) Please do not use the following words in your posts: HORRID, DISGUSTING, UGLY, TALENTLESS, MONSTOROUS, VOMITORIUM. YUCK, ICK.
2) Please do not engage in personal attacks on other posters or submitters.
3) When in doubt say something nice or at least ambiguous.

i do not agree with the extension, i don't think it's fair to the people who followed the rules, got it together or at least tried to and got their submission in on time.
for all those who did submit on time i'm sure they would like a few days more to adjust, reposition, clean up, get the lighting right, find a wide angle lens to get a better shot.
to be fair you should allow those who submitted on time an opportunity to resubmit.

Perhaps there arent as many competitors to this competition because of the exhausting nightmare that the Fall Colors Competition turned into.

Jill,
You were *going* to get hundreds of entries tomorrow, on Friday. Now that the deadline has been moved.... who knows. Maybe most will wait until, oh, say, Monday April 16th.
(I'm not opposed to extending the deadline; it's generally more effective to do that after you see what you got with the original deadline in place. Of course, then some of those who entered in a rush would have told themselves that their entry would have been so much better with some more time.... but they forget they wouldn't have even begun it when they did if they did not think Friday was the deadline.)
Can't wait to see the entries!

blackout,
One advantage to AT's announcing this today is that those who were going to submit on time *do* have the chance to take a few more days. -- And those who already sent in their submission could have easily already taken the extra few days if they needed it, rather than send it in early, since the deadline wasn't until tomorrow!

sea, why sould someone get an "advantage" of more time over another? there are no "extra few days" for those for those who submitted today before the announcement was made. who's to say that in a week the size requirement will change to allow for larger apartments because there are not enough entries. consideration should be made for those who submitted on time.. meaning they should be given the opportunity to resubmit if they so desire.

How about an "Uncoolest Small Apartment" contest - so those of us in hovels might win something to help us cool it up a bit! I won't enter the cool contest because my 525 sqft place is a dive due to lack of resources of the monetarty persuasion. Why do the coolest just keep getting cooler with their cooler-making prizes? I so want to be cool. It's high school all over again!

Now I'm a little confused. I though that only the top 40 entries would be posted for online voting. Now that the entries are being posted before all entries are received, there's no way a top 40 can actually be chosen. Does this mean all entries will be put up for voting?
