What's your favorite resource for your home?

Dumpster diving in Brooklyn, Art School leftovers, and anything free or cheep.

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?

Color on the walls is the best element in our apartment. It makes such a huge impact with little effort, especially being a renter. We used darker colors to bring drama into the room, and it really makes the art pop off the walls.

First of all, 850 sqft is not small, especially in NY. Secondly, boring. Not my bag, baby.

Love the blue in the bedroom - I have that same color in my bedroom...

The Kitchen is nice, but since it's a rental, these folks obviously had nothing to do with the design/materials.

...but the rest of the place is typical IKEA-showroom (Yawn)

I think this apartment has some lovely elements, but it really is just gigantic. I must count myself among the group who is very biased towards the apartments that are actually small, not just cool.

I'm envious of the space. This is not small.

I mean, wow. 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 closets plus a walk-in closet? and a huge double-door refrigerator with huge pull-out drawer freezer? There seems to be way too much space in this place. It's nice but huge!!

i like the use of color. but don't feel a single emotion of interior decorating happiness while watching the images. probably a great place to live in though.

I once had an 850sf apt that i needed to downsize from: too much "buy some furniture" pressure. agreed that 850 is a mite large for "small, cool".

850 for two people is not small, but not huge. It's actually quite reasonable.

I like what you've done in terms of paint colors. But beyond that, it seems incomplete.

And I must say -- that's an awfully big refridgerator for such a small kitchen. Overkill in NYC.

I have to agree - not "small" for the purposes of this contest, but also not huge. I'm pretty sure most of the people posting "huge!" live in bigger apartments than this.... Plus, no matter what size their place, they're snarky and judgy about it, which continually bugs me. There is no reason to be mean to people who post pics. It's in very bad taste.

I like your dining room. I *love* the charcoals above the bed. Even more if one of you did them. Cool!

I think it's cool. From the photos though, it really does give an impression of being cold and dark, at least in the living space. Could use something to soften the edge.

I have to agree w/brenjay & gustaf - not "small", but also not huge it is not that big for two people. I also like the dining room, the play on the scale of the light and table is nice. The art seems cool too. Like the colors on the walls, great for a rented place and it does make the art pop.

With full sincerity ... please beware of bed bugs.

If 850 is 'huge' for 2 people then 425 could be considered 'large' for a single person and we have seen a lot of those without snarky comments. Besides, the size falls withing the contest rules, so envy seems to be the only point in the continued harping over it.

As for the apartment, I like the judicious use of color and some of the art work, but everything else is ho-hum.

The apartment itself is beautiful. I'm just not all that excited with the things inside of it. It's nice but not super cool.

Dude, not small at all! I (along with my bf and very large dog) used to own a single family home in Denver that was about that size and felt plenty spacious.

i like it, but all the places are starting to look alike and therefore nothing special. so this one doesn't stand out in any way to me. my favorite thing is the way the bed looks - i love the black sheets and the combo of the sheet colors. plus they look so soft and comfy. i want to jump in!

It's 850 square feet. Are we over it yet? They meet the criteria for the contest. I don't know why every entry in this area that is close to 850 has the majority of comments about the UNECESSARY HUGENESS of it all. Jesus.

Perhaps everyone who is upset about the size should be making comments to the people who make the rules.

I love the bedroom and the bright blue in there! But the dark walls with the black couch and the dark curtains all seem to blend together a little too much. Probably didn't help either that it looks like the picture was taken at night. I would love to see some white accents in there to add some contrast

I think the emptiness of the space makes it seem larger than it is. That said, I live in a 250 sq. ft. place and this does appear spacious. The artwork is lovely. I think it goes especially well in the bedroom with the simple bedding, but the rest of the apartment leaves me feeling like something is missing.

This is tasteful, but feels unfinished and oddly cold given the nice wall color. I think that one reason it feels that way is that most of the incidental pieces, few though they are, are relatively square or "mechanical" rather than rounded, organic-looking and human. I think a few pieces of modern art with an organic feel to replace some of the boxier pieces could add a lot. It'd add a feeling of sumptuousness and warmth without hot colors to the place.

I abstained from voting because I can't say that I dislike this nor that I like it in any exceptional way. It is nice enough though.

This is a beautiful rental. I live the floors and the kitchen. That blue in the bedroom is gorgeous!! ... even more so that it is allowed to stand alone by pairing it with the white and smokey gray/black.

P.S. I think all of the naysayers are haters...shake em off!

I have to agree that for having that much space, it's a bit hard to understand why the living spaces are so, um, full. A little breathing room would be great.

You rent, so I guess this isn't your fault, but for 850sf, the kitchen is depressingly small. the space should've been planned better. Oh well.
