What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The light quality is amazing. I have seven windows and they all just stream sunlight for most of the day. The rear four windows are also completely covered in ivy in the late spring and summer. The light coming through is filtered and beautiful and I have greenery to enjoy (that I don't have to water!)

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Besides having really no budget for new furniture after moving from a differently configured apartment, my main concern was arrangement. My apartment is railroad-style so the space is a bit awkward. I spent a long time thinking about how to carve it up into uncluttered, usable space. I've really enjoyed creating little nooks in each room for doing whatever I might want to do. I have a reading spot for my beloved Thonet rocking chair, a loungey couch and chair for watching movies or hanging out, a craft/sewing/studio area and a workspace. Future plans include a new couch and desk.

What an adorable place - and it seems much larger than 350 s/f!
I particularly like the color you've done your walls in - what paint did you use??

I love that you have those inexpensive kitchen cabinets...but because you have so much natural light, they actually look good!

Absolutely adorable and homey. I love the grey on the walls and the gorgeous pops of color! And where, where, where did you get your awesome floating desk/shelf?

what color gray are the walls in your living room?
i LOVE it

Maggi's mansion! I think the blue wicker coffee table and side table are really nice!

Very cute-- love the wall-mounted shelf at the landing strip.
But it's definitely MUCH more than 350.

as others have said, love the grey. However it looks like the edge down by the molding is a bit rough, might need a slight touchup and even it out.

I have never wanted to live in NY and never seen a place that would ever entice me BUT, that being said, if I ever HAD to live in NY, I would want to live here - it does look so bright and fresh, not at all in the middle of a big city.

I have the same crappy cabinets in my place...but they looks so much better in your space! The floating shelf is awesome and I would love to know where you got it. You have done a lovely job with such a small space...it looks much larger than 350 sf.

the wool covered rocking chair is SO cute and comfy looking! is it just draped on the chair or upholstered?
view eriiikaa's profile
That's the klippan sofa and footstool isn't it? What a great way of making it look like it's a sofa plus chaise longue and like a million bucks by throwing those blankets over it!
It's amazing what you've done with just 350 sf!

Wow! 350 square feet? I would trip all over myself in such a tiny space!
Maggi makes it work, though!

great place! Where did you get your craft table/desk or is it a diy? I've been wanting to do something similar in my office area but can't afford the 2 MASH Studios LAX desks my space would require.

Thanks for the nice comments! The paint is a BM Aura color but copied to Valspar. I can't remember the color and I've lost the paint chip. Maybe it's Eternity? I realized I forgot to include the bathroom but it really is only 360 sq. feet. (The bedroom and living room are 9x13.5 and the kitchen is 10x11.) I would love to ditch the ugly cabinets but I'm renting, so you know, I have to take what I can get. The sheepskin is a rug draped over the rocking chair. The wall-mounted console is a DIY. and yep, it's a kippan sofa ottoman. I'm saving up for a real (tiny) sectional.

i have those same kitchen cabinets too. they are awful. have any of you noticed that they emit some kind of smell and it soaks into your food (like rice if it isn't inside a glass jar)? i hope i am not slowly poisoning myself by not replacing them. its just too much money right now.

Lovely!! Simple but so delightful. One of my favourites.
You have created a wonderful home! (:

What a great spot. I love the continued use of the same color palatte (sp?) throughout. It helps unify everything. Looks like quite a cozy home. I could spend hours in that rocking chair.

I never would have thought you could paint a room pale gray AND make it cheerful. WOW! So sophisticated.

I have to laugh when I hear people raving about the gray walls. This is the color my parents had in the living room in the early 1950s. It all comes back.

Do I see a framed thermostat? (does this word exist in English? You know what I mean). This is brilliant. And like all the others I love the gray.

Very nice. I love your dining set--can you give me any info about it? And I'm very glad to see books. I have wondered about many entries and a lack of books. I guess I'm spoiled in my 1400 sf!
view pvett's profile
pvett: LOL, I have three other bookshelves that aren't pictured. I can't seem to pare the books down. The dining table is Room & Board. It's a cherry butcherblock top on chrome legs (I forget what those 3 bar legs are called). I don't see this as an option on their site anymore. I customized it from different top/leg choices. The bentwood ply chairs are also Room & Board and also sadly gone from their site.

A very nice use of space indeed. I have the Klippan, but mine is red leather, found it in the As Is dept for just under $200 last fall. Love it.
I like how you used gray as a background color and then punched it up w/ other colors such as orange to bring some fun into the room. Nothing worse than a room devoid of any real color IMO.
If I saw that right, the prints above the couch look a little too high and if so, bring them down so the bottoms of the frames are no more than 6" from the top of the couch. Otherwise, nicely done and I love that shelf w/ the fabric in it.
You can have all the nice furniture in the world but it won't do you any good if they are placed higgly piggly and crunched together, here you did non of that and used what you had and placed it judiciously in the space to keep it airy and light and yes, it feels much larger than it's diminuitive 360Sq Ft.
One other thing, I noticed the cabinet to the stove's left is not level for if you look at the crack, it's obious, I have that same thing in my space too. :-)

Oooh. Please give instructions on how to do the DIY floating desk. It's dreamy!
view Veruca's profile
I really like the pattern art you have hanging up. Did you make those yourself, or is that art you bought?
view letteretcher's profile
I dig it. What is that paint color?

Veruca, I think it's against the rules to add links here but go to Design Sponge and search for "maggi desk". Letteretcher, it's mostly fabric on stretcher bars. That's my absolute favorite way to do fun, big impact pieces on a budget.

I love your place. All the colors and sunlight are really beautiful and it just makes me want to curly up in your reading area.
Do you have to be pretty crafty to make the floating desk? I've love to attempt that, but i have no experience doing DIY.
Great job!
