For an added twist, this week I'm profiling 3 sofa sleepers that I had already photographed and experimented with BUT I just learned that they have all been discontinued by DWR — while unfortunate (I was rather fond of the Havana) this could prove to be a great chance to score a deal on any of these models: Havana, Sliding Sofa or Vega.
HAVANA
The Havana is a true lounging sofa — it's long, low and comfortable. This is a convertible sofa that one would never suspect. It's remarkably easy to manipulate and the oversized pillows add to the charm. The downfall is that it is only a twin bed — though it makes up for this with built in storage and overall aesthetic. If I had room for a sofa this large, I would hunt one of these down.
PROS sleek, storage
CONS big, low, heavy, twin bed
DISTRIBUTOR DWR
ORIGINAL PRICE $3,500 (no longer online — look for discounted floor models at DWR studio stores and any remaining stock at DWR Annex locations)

TRANSITION EASE A
SLIDING SOFA
The Sliding Sofa has been part of the DWR lineup for as long as I can remember. The design is very straightforward and utiliatarian which translates to a sleeper where the transition process is intuitive.
PROS intuitive transition process, minimal and basic
CONS really expensive for such a basic design
DISTRIBUTOR DWR

VEGA
This modular system has lots of possibilities, the three components, sofa, chaise and ottoman, all work well together and can be combined in different formations for a more custom approach to furnishing a space. Both the chaise and sofa convert to a twin-sized bed and can be moved to create a larger sleeping area. The sofa arm can be moved from either the left or right side.
PROS modular, customizable
CONS big, low, converting to a double sleeper requires moving furniture
DISTRIBUTOR DWR
ORIGINAL PRICE sofa | $1,680 - $2,400 (depending on color)

See all of our Sofa Sleepers of the Week.
Aaron will be profiling a different sleeper every week. Is there one you're curious about? Let us know in the comments.
We have the Vega. My biggest issue with it is the base has to be unscrewed to removed the slipcover. Not very convenient and the slipcover is a big pain to wrestle on and off. Looks good and is comfy, though.

It does look good. I like. :)

does the Sliding Sofa need to be away from the wall to open?

i like the manstad from ikea for a sleeper. i wish it was a better fabric, like a velvet or such, but it is so pratical. sectional part lifts up for storage for linens and pulling out "bed" part couldn't be easier.

i'm hoping to pick it up the next time i go to the city.

I have a Havana that is less than a year old that I am trying to sell! It is too big for my apartment.
Please let me know if anyone is interested. It's in the lighter color.
It's a great couch! In addition to being a sleeper, it also has storage underneath.

You can still get Havana and Sliding from other dealers like Sedia in Boston, possibly at at a better price than DWR was charging and you have hundreds of fabric choices instead of just 2 or 3. Both of these designs are made by the Italian manufacturer Tacchini.

We bought 3 vega sofas, 2 ottomans and the chaise to make up the configuration we were after. We were quite pleased with the lot. I agree it is a nightmare to remove the covers though, we were advised by DWR to have the covers cleaned on the sofa, so we did, unfortunately the fabric stretched and became baggy and very unsightly, so I thought thank goodness we can just order new covers only to find that all the Vega collection had been discontinued by DWR, and no-one else carries the line. Very disappointed, the sales pitch for the sofas was that you could change out covers whenever you wanted so a great investment as it will stand the test of time, now we have a 2 year old sofa that cost us many 1000's of dollars and will probably have to spend more than the value of the sofa to have new covers made! Hmmmmm, not a good investment after all.

Softline produces the product and it's about a 5 week wait and the prices are similar to what DWR charged.
Thankyou Stepha Hertzog and Michael Brant for all your help.
No thanks to DWR for just shrugging your shoulders and saying too bad, can't help have no idea.
