The award-winning Blu Dot has been around since 1997 and is the entrepreneurial creation of three Williams College friends with a passion for art, architecture and design who, when attempting to furnish their first homes, "didn’t like the stuff we could afford and we couldn’t afford the stuff we liked." Well-made and stylish, Blu Dot's pieces are smart and modern...
From the website: Our goal is to bring good design to as many people as possible. Which means creating products that are useful, affordable, and desirable. To make that happen, our design process is founded on collaboration. Not just among ourselves as we play show-and-tell with concepts, but a total collaboration between pencil and paper, materials and machines, even packaging and assembly. We like to think that the form is almost inevitable, a by-product of the process. Our job is simply to help it emerge as beautifully and as efficiently as possible.

Love their stuff -- it is reasonably priced, original and clean.
[Jilted Customer Alert] However, having walked into the NYC showroom the week it opened in December and proceeding to purchase 12, count 'em, 12 items, I am completely disillusioned with their service.
1. Items were promised to be delivered by the new year. The final items were received the last week of February, eight weeks late.
2. Modulicious night tables were sent without their floor pads attached, which we only learned after sliding them into place causing an 1/8" gash in our new floors. Bludot has yet to compensate.
3. The last item received was also damaged in transit and we have yet to be informed about its replacement.
4. And finally, the highlight? The store manager informed us that with all of the issues on this order we as customers were becoming "unprofitable". Talk about great service.

I only thought it fair to update my comment above, in light of the fact that Blu Dot has made good on the issues I described above. In fact, and this is something that the AT community will appreciate, their management in MN referenced the fact that we were "early adopters" in addressing our complaints. That is the way it should be. Now I can sit back and enjoy my new furniture, instead of stewing over it!
