2005_4_1_boffi5.gifOne of these days. On the final day of Kitchen month, what is more fitting than to bring out the Boffi. High end? Yes. Italian? Yes. Too much? Yes. Beautiful? Yes (if you don't overdo it).

Whether you shop at Ikea or Home Depot for your kitchen cabinets, you should know what is going on. It is more fun that way. In the world of kitchen design, it is companies like Boffi that set the trends and often transform other impulses. When you look at Ikea, you are looking at influences that start with Boffi.

2005_4_1_boffi1.jpgWe recommend taking a stroll through their showroom - if for nothing else, for design tips. Not everything is cold and severe (though a lot is), and we particularly like the b95 and the Latina kitchens, with their warm wood.

NYMag says: "for the ultimate in chic, contemporary fixtures, head down to Boffi. Interior designers shop here for elements that can transform a bathroom into spalike heaven...Dont be put off by the gallery-ish atmosphere; novices are more than welcome. "

I love walking around there. The staff are friendly - I remember one of them beckoning a friend of mine and me to come and browse as we peered inside the window pointing stuff out to each other, and they were happy to chat with me another time about their jobs as designers while I waited for an item.

The only things I ever bought were the lights (I forget what they were called by I named them in my bathroom post) for my ex bathroom but would love one of their kitchens. Especially if I had the space for their suspended hoods. The stone bathroom stuff is also nice but I never really cared much for a lot of the actual hardware (the flat faucet stuff).
