I prefered the now-defunct Industrial Plastics that used to be next door, but Canal Plastics is also a nice little store. It's relatively clean and well-laid out, and they sell a bunch of different films, vinyls and mylars as well as acrylic.

Hey, is Industrial Plastics the place that had the car crash through the front of the store two years ago?? I seem to remember a plastics place closing down because of that - and I wonder, if it is Industrial Plastics. if they plan to re-open. I know, random thought...

Actually, the car crashed into Canal Plastics. Industrial plastics were much bigger (and better) than canal. It is unbelievably sad that they are gone....Does anyone know why they closed?

I don't know why they closed, but most of their store space was taken up by that whole dusty giant plastic sculpture warehouse area, when most people went in there to buy film and sheets of plastic.

There was also that great family-run junk store west of there on Canal - Wooster, maybe? You could find almost any little bit of metal you wanted. The patriarch died a couple of years ago, and the store dissolved.

I once bought an entire blue Tyvek cleanroom suit from them...

Industrial Plastics closed down because of a fire around April from what I heard.

I was in canal plastics last week, and I was treated very rudely. I'm not a big fan of their service. They need to hire some better people if they want me back in there.

Why are the people in canal plastic such assholes?
what's their problem? does anyone know who pissed in their corn flakes. i take my money some where else
i bet their from the northern part of China all backwards farmers hides stupidity with uglyness!

I've been in the store plenty of times and
yes it is true they are rude and not to defend them but it seems to me they are too busy and
have little control of thier language skills
also i think they "don't like round eyes" but hey
i don't care anyway i don't have to eat with them.

I am looking for a 12 x 12 x 1/2" plexi glass - is this the place to go?

Hi. emily. Good to hear Industrial Plastic is still around. Your store had been my one stop shop for plastics when you were in Canal St. Do you plan to open again in NYC? It is a lot more convenient for me and I believe to others as well.

I've only been to canal plastics once and despite my indecisiveness and odd order, they were pretty nice to me. It seems like the place to go if you know what you need and don't wish to speak to anyone for an extended amount of time. However, I've seen places on the internets that do custom orders for much less money, shipping included, than canal. Then there's the benefit of accuracy when picking out what you need from drop down menus instead of trying to bridge the language gap. I'd like to be all "support local business" but when it comes to plastics, cash rules everything around me.
