Sleep in Ceasar's round bed! A number of months ago, we found a cool round bed at Spacify and posted it for those kinky, naughty people who like that kind of thing. Little did we know there was a backstory.
Not only do quite a few people have round beds - a few of whom have written in - most of them have trouble finding round sheets when they have worn out the old. Where to get round sheets??? became a question we kept hearing. Then, in came an email from the Houston Mattress Factory.

Round mattresses are a common item in the Southwest United States. Many hotel and motel chains make these available as an incentive for people to stay, Ceasar's in Las Vegas has had round mattresses for years. Our firm manufactures round, heart shapped, antique (generally smaller than normal), RV, boat, and any other speciality mattress. We are 49 years young. Linens are available from several sources. Of course the Southwest has all the round beds. That's were Jenna Jameson lives. As for Houston Mattress, their website has no pics yet, but if you need help in this area, definitely give them a call. (The modern bed above is from Unica) (Thanks, Michael!)

just curious: why is a round bed considered kinky?
not that i sleep on one, or ever have...
I think a round bed sounds like big fun, and it wouldn't take much to figure out how to make it kinky. But what a huge space it would have to live in, hunh? I think if your bedroom is way overscale, this would be a great way to make it feel fuller, though. But I can absolutely see why a person would hesitate to get one if they didn't know where to get sheets for it.
That said, you would still have trouble getting the kinds of prints and patterns on them that everyone else does, I would think. But you probably wouldn't really care.
I was recently at Ikea and they seem to have gotten on the round bed bandwago. They even sell the sheets for them...not sure if they're very comfy to sleep on but they are definitely an affordable alternative.
The Ikea 2006 catalog offers a round bed (pg 46) and they list a mattress pad and fitted sheet as being available for it. No info on colors or patterns though.
I can do only mine before writer obligations, have also the catalog. No info. on colors and samples.
I wondered the same thing as Brandy did while reading the post: why are circular beds considered ESPECIALLY kinky and naughty? After all, there's no reason why one couldn't do he same things on a regular rectangular one (and I don't remember seeing any nudge, nudge, wink, wink comments on any other posts about beds. My guess is the bed's association with those "honeymoon hotels" and the aforementioned Caesar's Palace: places people go to do things they might not do at home....
Now a rotating round bed, like in The Jerk, that's kinky.
I personally think an adjustable bed has way more kink-factor than a round one.

Sexy cinematic uses of the *rotating* round bed: Matt Helm movies with Dean Martin (rotating bed on wheels, with tilting action); "Modesty Blaise" with Monica Vitti (large-scaled rotating bed, dressed in all-white beddings and pillows); "Danger: Diabolik" with John Phillip Law (overscaled rotating bed with multi-level surfaces, dressed in all-white beddings and pillows plus millions of dollars in US Currency--from the latest caper). So, is the round bed kinky? Maybe just a little bit--in the campy caper movies of the late '70s. But really more cheeky and super-spy-cool than kinky in these instances.

i guess the rectangle just kinda suggests standard position, whereas the round is a bit more playful. there are not as many rules? i don't know...just brainstorming here.
my experience with a round bed suggests that the appeal is in the available surface area. not that you couldn't get the same effect with a gigantic king-sized bed, of course.
I think that with a round bed, the lack of corners would not only provide more surface area, but less fixed-point frame of reference, so there just might a little bit more abandon.
So, I suppose Max's mention of adjustability could eventually be added to the round bed, and then you really WOULD have something interesting.

My favorite round bed from film is Mary Fisher's (Meryl Streep) in "She Devil".

I've always thought that a round bed could be spectacular in a one-room apartment. I'd love to see something that P2 would design with that in mind. Decor-wise.
I always thought these were cool, Of course with myself being 6'3" and my girlfriend being 6' such a bed could really only serve one purpose.
