If you have ever felt like something was missing from your life, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here....

Great Stuff by Paul is, well, a bunch of great stuff. It’s difficult to know where to start. English watering cans are piled high in a corner next to several Child’s Wash Stands (in assorted colors). We fell in love with some wire locker baskets (with hooks) just dreaming of the storage possibilities.

There are 2 locations; The huge warehouse of great stuff on 6th Street and a more boutique-like shop downtown, located at 10 N Carroll Street. Paul himself was at the warehouse when we stopped by on a recent Saturday and his enthusiasm is contagious. He very well may have the best job - ever. He travels the world over (China, England, France, Germany, and Holland, to name a few) seeking unique and wonderful items. Some are old; some are new. Frankly, it’s a bit overwhelming.

Fredrick is just about an hour Northwest of DC, and it's a great place to spend the day (even the MARC train goes there). We loved the antique stores and the renovated downtown section, but Paul’s is definitely one of the main attractions.

I was a little startled to see "Great Stuff by Paul Washington DC" but you meant AT DC, not Paul DC. It's a great store (2 stores). A couple of times a year I drive up to Discount Fabrics in Thurmont (when they're having a sale on top of the discounts). stop at the orchard store for whatever's in season, and then have lunch and do a little hunter/gathering in Frederick on the way home. It irons out a lot of mental clutter.

I didn't know the MARC train goes to Frederick. An outing!

I live in Frederick, and there are lots of other great places to find stuff-I don't really care for Paul's too much; there's lots of places that sell what he has for less. And there are a couple of new shops that sell some nifty mid-century modern/modern stuff that are cool.

If you come up hit east patrick and north market streets; Brewer's alley has some excellent microbrews and Isabella's has pretty decent tapas-the fried asparagus is lovely and their sangria is sneaky, but even more lovely. There's a farmer's market on Shab Row on thursdays, and a bigger on out on route 40 ('The Golden Mile') on Saturdays. Also, we actually do get some great live entertainment up here; either at the bars/restaurants, the Weinberg Center, or the free concerts in Baker Park. Unfortunately we have lost some way cool shops to the economy and higher rents, and now have a Starbucks on Market street-and two other coffee places trying to sell/closing down.
