If you come, we'll build it. We've received an increasing number of emails in the last two months from readers who would like to have an AT near them (some in London!) and while we weren't planning on moving on this so soon, our Store and Comments projects are currently in the hands of our technical team (Mark) and we are feeling open to getting something else off the ground in the Fall. That said, we wait on this if there isn't real support for it. We'll collect comments in this thread, collate them and then go to a vote next.
So we want to ask: Where are there enough nutty readers to support a new AT?

boston boston boston!
Austin
pittsburgh! i'll help! :) pick me pick me pick me!! (we're hipper than you think--we brought you andy warhol and keith haring! and the first green [as in eco, not as in kermit] convention center in the country!)
Is that another photo of that Swiss hotel?
baltimore or DC =)
aw, hell's bells. we brought you fallingwater and kentuck knob (and soon--this fall--duncan house), too--three fabulous frank lloyd wright landmark residences! just an hour or so outside of pittsburgh! :) okay, i'll stop now. but seriously. pittsburgh!
denver might just eat you guys up...rocky mountain AT.
Portland, OR!!
MIAMI! We want you in Miami! We're cool enough here for Apartment Therapy here!
Toronto!
MIAMI!
boston please. we are small but mighty.
Denver! We rock here.
Another vote for Boston!
I am a New Yorker, though I know plenty of people in Boston, DC, and Montréal who would love an AT. (The beauty and quality of even mid-level goods in Montréal put U.S. offerings to shame. Plus, you could have a French-language site, woo woo.)
DC
Washington DC. Nation's Capital. 'Nuff said.
Boston, Boston, Boston, and oh yeah, Boston.
ATL please please!!! Save us smart people who haven't sold out to the burbs!
(cough) The Netherlands, please!! Yes, I mean that design-conscious, modernism-loving little country across the Atlantic, with expensive, small housing; mostly apartments in cities. AT would be a great success here, I'm sure.
DC! (Well the Metro/Mid-Atlantic area anyway)
I'm all for the DC/Baltimore metro area. It spans literally at least 200 miles north to south, and the two cities are growing together between them.
Pleasepleasepleaseplease give us DC. I'll offer myself up as a sacrificial lamb and contributer if I need to.
Minneapolis!
The Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) are growing exponentially. Many older, small apartments here (small houses too), and the condo/loft market is EXPLODING.
The area is becoming more and more sophisticated and design-savvy, we have a burgeouning art scene, and more crafters, artists, and DIYers than we know what to do with.
Miami
Another vote for DC! (Maxwell, remember all the participation when you did that chat with the Washington Post a few months ago?)
Boston! ! !
You know I've mentioned Bakerville, Connecticut before.
I'm a loyal reader in D.C., but I think a D.C. outpost would need to include Baltimore to really make it interesting.
Portland, OR.
Even though the west coast is already well represented, It's all California as usual. The PNW is a whole different (and stylish) animal.
philly please!
Boston!
DOn't want to sound like a jerk but the SF and LA AT's BARELY post as much as either the NY or Chi sites...
So unless the new AT is going to be active and keep this beast moving then no new additions should be made...
TORONTO!!!
Boston and I will be your craigslist troll!
orlando please!! there's more to us than mickey mouse, i promise!
I vote for DC. Love the NY site - but too much is not close enough to home.
If Baltimore would be willing to share a site with us - that would be great for us.
DC!
Philly!
I agree with Johnny Concerned...like a shrub, you don't want this thing to grow too fast, or you'll end up with some spindly branches.
DC/Baltimore
Madison, WI?
PHILLY
Minneapolis/St. Paul!
Another DC vote. We need some serious therapy here.
I live in a house. A big house with a barn and my next door neigbors keep dairy cows. My road isn't paved, but I love modern design, and I love AT. And your recent post about YOUR barn floor/chair conundrum illustrates that modern country design presents unique challenges with unique rewards. ("AT: Hicksville" anyone???)
I'm for New Jersey!
We have incredibly diverse housing and space design issues and solutions here. Lofts, high rises, condos, and brownstones in the North and South, beach cottages, condos, and houses at the Shore. The state has a huge quantity of some of the most historic buildings in the country that people actually live in.
If you don't cover New Jersey separately, you should cover it more as part of AT-New York. After all, we are half of the metropolitan area.
DC/Baltimore/NorthernVirginia. We lead the nation in dowdy. And in Republicans. We need help.
miami sounds like a natural progression to me. i'd be glad to help out there in january and february.
London!!! I'll help, I promise!!!
DC!!!
Dilution destoys potency.
DC DC DC DC DC DC DC DC!!!!!!!! PLEASE
It's a bunch of us visiting the NY site anyway ;)
The city (the nations capital) is bursting with hip cool amazing condos, lofts, old historic brownstones and everthing in between! Gallery PL-Chinatown, Georgetown, Brookland,Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Southwest Waterfront, Mazza Gallery, Cleveland Park and so many more areas full of funky shops. So much flavor from a diverse city exploding with artists, historic flea markets and shops. Ok, I could go on for days about how this would be an amazing choice. I love the NY site but sometimes I feel a little ostracized when hearing about all the stuff going on in the area. It would be nice having a thread about your areas cool events and sales etc. Again, please please!!! consider us
thanks ;)
NASHVILLE I bet this is the only vote for Nashville. I probably wouldn't go there if there was a site. I'm enjoying the NY, and Chicago sites. The world is ready for all the design wonder here in Nashville.
I'm for a DC/VA blog. (Norfolk here)
Without a doubt, DC!!!!
i sort of agree with Windwolf (and others) about spreading yourselves too thinly even though i really really want an AT:boston. I wish that EVERYONE navigated to an "AT:home base", and there could be mini-links for each city (INCLUDING nyc)---so people could find out what's going on in their area, what great shops/local products are around, etc. but we could all interact and get advice on homebase. does that make any sense?
The nearest for me here in the south would be ATL or Houston/Dallas, TX. If anything Atlanta, GA
I should add though that it probably should be DC/Baltimore, as other people mentioned. Very different animals, those 2 cities are, but so close it would be silly not to combine the 2 (plus, DC could learn a few things from Charm City in the design and hipness department).
Austin!
One more vote for DC. Please!
Montreal or at least one somewhere in Canada.
I'm not sure I understand the point of the different sites though, except for the posts related to local stores. Much of the rest of the content, like house tours, and design questions are pretty location independent. I don't actually even know all the different current AT sites since I've never noticed a list or link to a list of cities. That would be something nice to add in the sidebar.
Philly - we get overlooked a lot.
Gotta be Toronto!
Another vote for DC, and can it NOT deal w/ communities south of the river? Northern Virginia is a very different beast. DC does blend into Maryland at the city limits, at least in places like Takoma Park, Silver Spring, and Chevy Chase. A similar design vocabulary extends in those areas.
This just isn't true across the river. They all shop at Tysons' Corner and Bailey's Crossroads, and might as well be in Tennessee for all the cultural connection they have with the city.
I agree with Megan on having a "home base". The motto of AT is changing the world, one apartment at a time, then why isnt there a place for all of us to share and learn? I read AT NYC York regularly and find most of the content relevant and useful, but feel excluded from participating in the contests because I dont live in NYC, SF, LA, or Chicago.
It is another photo of the Swiss hotel in eastern Switzerland. Ha, ha!
Anyway, AT shouldn't be in too many cities. What does Boston really have to offer, or Philly for that matter. AT should be exclusive. Include London, Paris, and maybe Osaka, then close the door. I really like the idea of including Madison, WI. Maybe, Madison could be added, and Chicago could be jettisoned.
perhaps to address johnnyconcerned's concerns, let interested folks in considered cities apply/audition/submit content for a month and let AT readers see what sticks. and i agree with megan that AT as a portal that's clickable to each city (i'm picturing a craigslist model) would be swell.
Three cheers for DC!!!!
FOUR CHEERS FOR DC!
Philly.
NOOOOOOOOOOO! Your city is crime ridden and lacking in culture! I also vote for the inclusion of Montreal or Quebec.
ATLANTA ATLANTA ATLANTA ATLANTA PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Boston!
Don't forget the University of Kentucky area.
........PARIS..............
........PARIS..............
........PARIS..............
........PARIS..............
........PARIS..............
DC/VA!
And Rahul, yes, we hate you too. Actually, no, we don't. Why do you hate us? I live just on the other side of the river, in Rosslyn, and I don't like Tyson's or Bailey's Xroads.
TORONTO!!!!
Austin. It's a young city with more than enough personality.
atlanta please
Dallas/Ft. Worth gets my vote.
It's funny to me that Rahul wants to draw borders around the DC area for exclusivity. I was just waiting for someone in the District get all wound up when someone mentioned northern VA.
For that reason, I'm changing my vote to Philly. They're not pretentious. They don't have the city/burb snobbery. Go Philly! :)
DC! And we'll host a launch party for you at our store!
Onther vote for the portal. This way, guest editors can write in about spaces all over the world. I live in Seattle, and can say that there is a lot more to cover here than Domaine!
OK, I earlier said DC, and I agree that if that happens it should include Baltimore (and won't wander into the NoVA argument). However, having read all the comments I now think Megan and Stefani's idea of reorganizing AT so it had a "home base" with just side items on sales, etc. in particular cities might make more sense. It does seem that the Chicago/San Fran/LA AT's get less traffic than the NY one (judging by the number of comments), and I enjoy reading all of them, which would be easier if there was just one main blog.
that would be "another". Or "one other" if you wanted to get fancy.
Seattle?
Seattle, Seattle, seattle...
*that was supposed to be an echo :)
Atlanta!
Atlanta! Atlanta! Altanta!
I agree with Whitney that those of us that haven't moved out to the sprawling burbs need some help! Tons of intown living places are being created right now and those of us in them need some help finding funiture that is not McMansion sized!
SEATTLE!!!!
DC/Maryland/Northern Va.
While the Twin Cities would be wonderful, I agree with the "home base" option. Somewhere that those of us who live in "small" or "unimportant" or "unhip" cities can go.
Boston!!
I like the idea of a "home base" site with only location-specific stuff on the city-specific sites. I do sometimes feel like I"m missing out by only reading AT:NYC since I've occasionally clicked back to one of the other sites when there's a cross-post and seen interesting stuff that wasn't cross-posted.
I'd be interested to see a geographic survey of AT readers.
As others have said, I too like the idea of one main site with links to reports that are specific to certain cities. I don't live anywhere near NY or the other cities that already have their own sites, but I still like to read all of the blogs because most of the topics covered are not city specific. I think all the sites have good information on them, but it is difficult as a reader to keep track of what is going on all the sites. I do, however, really like the idea of splinter sites for different rooms (ex. the kitchen or the garden)
"I'd be interested to see a geographic survey of AT readers."
this would be very easy:
http://www.frappr.com
boston!!! boston!!!
we'll all pitch in and help!!!
Would love to see AT Minneapolis - we're an incredibly design conscious city!!!
I would vote Pittsburgh... but im moving out and going to Chicago... -so my vote goes to BOSTON!
it is an excelent city and is central to New England...
Add yourself to the map!
http://www.frappr.com/apartmenttherapygeographicsurvey
(thanks abefroman, I didn't know about that site!)
I live in Jersey and obviously read the NY site, but I enjoy reading the other city sites too. I like the idea of having a home base/main site for everyone. That allows for more input, more goodies, more things to salivate over . . .
Boston.
I agree with the comments about having a main Apartment Therapy with contributions from designated cities and specialized content (vendors, et al.) on individual city sites. Possibly archive past city sites in current format.
while i still vote for a dc/bmore area store...or one in each city!!!!! hehe...i would looooooooooooooooooooooooove love love loooooooove to see an AT: bmore/dc site too as previously mentioned above. ^_^V
boston!
yay yay tralala
boston <3
Boston please! There are so many beautiful and unique buildings and homes and we need some focus on how to take advantage of it all. Plus I get jealous of all the cool shops in other cities, and would love to learn more about what is right here in Beantown :-)
Also would love to see a main portal and satellite sites for other cities. I'd love just a list of resources in Detroit/Ann Arbor that was reasonably well maintained.
Boston please! Please pretty please? Would bribery help?
Boston, please
Gotta be DC. We really do need the help!
Austin! We're young, hip, a little more in touch than the rest of Texas with our money-saving-eco-friendly sensibilitites! I am in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the summer, but will be back in ATX in September. Plus, I figured there weren't many votes for Jackson!
AUSTIN!!!!
BOSTON!
Minneapolis/St. Paul! Though, I DO love the idea of a main site with links to other cities. That way, if you are traveling you can reference AT for great places to shop in different cities...
Absolutely DC! Please!
You know, I might want to change my vote too. I think my first choice would be the "one main site" idea, with features from various cities. I currently only read the NY one regularly, but if I wander over to the others I find I've missed some good stuff!
If that idea does not take, I vote for DC/VA (and MD).
Boston, indeed.
Philadelphia!
philly, please.
Keep the main sites as they are.
Add forums (a main forum, then forums for other cities/regions).
If one of these forums is particularly active with a good group of posters who contribute often, give them their own main site (this would probably eliminate any talent search issues as well; as the frequent posters can simply become contributers if that region/city gets a site).
Just a suggestion.
BOSTON!
Toronto
It's a great city with great design and tons of apartment living. It would be nice to have a canadian counterpart to AT.
Seattle!
Oh another thing about BOSTON -- with ALL of the students up here, it would be a GREAT way to get AT out to all of them. We have Harvard, MIT, BU, BC, Northeastern, Berklee, I could go on forever. Plus, it would be great to get Providence readers involved too with all the artsy/design-y stuff happening there, just 45 minutes south of Boston. They have RISD.
I've lived in Boston for 15 years and I'm an interior design consultant here, so of course I'm partial, but having AT here would be excellent and I'd be happy to help you in any way that I can. I also know of a great Harvard grad who is deeply involved in the design world that would love to write for you guys, so if you decide to head up to Boston, I already know of a few good peeps to put you in touch with.
Holly
Toronto!
Washington, DC!
How 'bout a Seattle/Portland combo? (She says despondently, already feeling trumped by DC/Philly/Boston/what-have-you.)
Homebase with satellites please. And I disagree with a poster that said the other AT sites are not as active, at least on the posting side (can't speak for participation) - I love the Chicago site (even though my first read is AT: NYC) and the hosts for their posts.
If above fails, Philly please!
austin, please. we have so many untapped design resources to speak of.
I vote for Seattle or the Pacific Northwest so it could include both Seattle and Portland. We are not that far from each other so it might work?
Phoenix, AZ
Another vote for the DC/Baltimore metro area. Liked B's suggestion of a forum-to-site transition for a new city.
Miami! You flirted with the idea of a AT here before and now is the time. Think of all the terrific modern, tropical images in the dead of winter. There's lots going on here and a vibrant support of design.
Houston! I'd settle for E-TX. I love Austin!
Washington DC!
Ottawa/Montreal....or I'd settle for Toronto
Washington, DC
Portland, Oregon, baby!
The Pacific Northwest needs a great forum for its hip and fabulous design directions.
Portland!
Portland!
Portland!
DALLAS!
DC/Baltimore...please!!
I'm going to add another vote for Portland! Or, at least maybe a Pacific Northwest Portland/Seattle site?
Portland has AT written all over it!
Hartford, CT
One main cover page with links to other sites is already planned for as are other goodies:
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/news/2006-state-of-the-blog-address-008949
As a nycer, I vote for Chicago.
Ha Mischa, Philly not being snobby about suburbs? The number of times I heard Jersey jokes and similar shots about the Main Line--too many to count! I'm no Philly hater..just sayin'.
Anyway, i'm liking everyone's ideas for a portal--I remember wanting that in the beginning before AT LA. But, if AT is going to continue adding new blogs, I definitely want DC to have one!
Paris!
New Orleans. Surely not enough people to support a new AT but have to represent my sad city anyway.
definitely seattle/portland even seattle/portland/vancouver bc would be cool. pppleeeease!
I go with Miami or Orlando. Florida is really a fascinating place, but people just see it for the theme parks and South Beach. There's a lot more than that. We'd love to have you!
Austin all the way!!!
seattle or a pacific nw combo (portland, seattle, vancouver bc)
Atlanta! Atlanta!
Seattle or a NW Combo Pack! We know how to share and get along with others.
Boston, home of 250,000 students that change apartments every year.
DC...Please!
BOSTON! Please! We all have style but don't know how to use it!
Teach us, and help us teach each other.
MIAMI! 3-0-5
Houston or Austin -- two large-ish cities, about 150 miles apart. We go back and forth all the time.
Boston! (and new england, too!)
Would love to see the home base AT kept more or less as is. Like Arin (way up in the blog early this a.m.) I am a devotee of the site, and am primarily kept busy with the threads and links to things that interest me, whether they are geographically based or not.
That said, if you get a little nutty and decide that Denver is the new design hotspot, I'll be the first to welcome you.
Oh, definitely Montreal! Or at least somewhere Canadian with Canadian resources.
toronto!!!!!!!!!!
Oohhh, I like the Pacific NW combo package idea! We've got some smart cookies in these parts.
Minneapolis! If that's not feasible I like the idea of Montreal or Toronto.
BOSTON! (I may live in Brooklyn, but I'll always be a Brookline girl at heart!)
boston
DC
then i could host the first AT get-together, ply you all with drink, do a Tom Sawyer and you all finish drywalling my bathroom.
Boston
Sydney Australia!
BOISE, ID!!!
Pacific NW! (the golden triangle of Portland, Seattle, Vancouver) and environs.....
Think lumberjack meets high tech...we call it the Silicon Forest....home of Microsoft and Nike and whatever Vancouver is home to (lots of Asian influences obviously)....giant trees and rain and mottled light a thousand grays of the inside of an oyster shell and design galore....Seattle and Portland have deep Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Swedish roots and lots of danish modern to be had all over...thrifting, second hand, and vintage are all good out this way too...lots of inspiration...
PS I volunteer to help....
Hey!!
Who's that other Deborah in Australia??? **I"M THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED**
Seriously, I thought Boston & Philadelphia were outer suburbs of New York. Bit of a waste of time.
London or another European city would be great.
I would love to see an AT Canada site...I'm in Western Canada, but anywhere in Canada would make me happy. It's so hard to find things that are listed in U.S. locations, and cross-border online shopping costs twice the price, after the exchange rate and the duties...ugh. We have our own version of HGTV...it would be cool to have our own AT, too!
Ok, that's all I'm going to say about it! Thanks for asking, AT!
Boston, please.
I like the sound of "OZ Therapy" so I third the motion for Sydney, Australia - or maybe at the very least a bit of an 'international' site where there are some links to vendors who ship internationally
I'm going to vote for three cities:
Toronto.
Montreal.
Amsterdam.
AT:Dallas!
Austin or Houston would be great as well...
London, or anywhere else in teh UK would be cool
" I wish that EVERYONE navigated to an "AT:home base", and there could be mini-links for each city "
I totally agree! Otherwise, we urban ATLANTANS need some serious help.
London!
acocado, read my post - what you and others want is coming.
pacific northwest, specifically seattle WA and vancouver BC
montreal would be incredible as well.
***Seriously, I thought Boston & Philadelphia were outer suburbs of New York. Bit of a waste of time.***
Boston? A suburb of NYC? Ha ha ha ha ha--um, no. Nice try, though.
Boston, please!
Canada please! I live in Vancouver, but some Canadian resources would be awesome.
Boulder, CO - How about an AT Denver?
On the topic at hand: Minneapolis/St. Paul (aka Twin Cities).
As for the general idea: Sounds like some are proposing AT have a listing for quite a few more cities moving in the direction of Craigslist in terms of the large number of cities for which they have classifieds. Not sure if that's good, bad, or neutral. Though, Dwell mag has shown that good design and design conscious people live all over the country, continent, and world.
Boston - please please please
the south end alone has the *country's largest* perserved area victorian rowhouses = translates to many many small apartments carved into slender buildings
we need you
Either Toronto or an AT Canada representing the best of Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
There have been calls for Toronto for a while now! Perhaps a general Canadian site?
