ATNY Survey: Moving?

6-2-moving-box.jpgWalking around this weekend, we witnessed a lot of people moving — it was the end/beginning of the month in the peak moving season. And in the East Village, there are even more movers because it's also the end of the school year.

It made us relieved that we were staying in our rental for another year (or we would have been moving this weekend, too)...

I should have moved this weekend... but I still don't have the keys to my new place. It's new and they don't have all the permits yet, so... more waiting for me! I miss some more posts on moving here in AT!

I know a lot of renters that can afford a house now that the prices have come down. But I also know a few home owners that are loosing their homes and are going to rent.

Moving! Leaving overpriced California for University City (outside of St. Louis). For the price of a 2/1 800sqft condo, we can buy a 4/2 2500 sqft home built for the 1904 World Expo in great shape. The home is right on the edge of Forest Park (think Central crossed with Golden Gate parks but bigger), 400 yards from where we will be working at Washington Univ.

While prices are down in CA, they are still a long way from being down enough for most families. We got tired of waiting and are really looking forward to moving on with our careers and being able to finally start our family. The economy in CA was feeling like a death sentence.

I sure hope we can move this summer or sometime soon...our apartment is falling down around us and it's getting pretty depressing to live here.

just signed a lease for August 15 last night! somerville, here i come!

the landlord is painting the whole place, and we get to choose the colors! the only rule? it has to be benjamin moore, and it has to be agreeable for tenants-to-come... nothing too funky/dark/neon/etc... looking at lighter shades and all. i know i want a yellow kitchen and grey bedroom.

otherwise, we have a hall, a living room, and dining (which we'll use as a study/reading room/office)... as well as the off-white tiled bathroom to choose colors for!

anyone want to throw out suggestions? take a look at my Flickr (link in profile) to get an idea of my furniture scheme and throw some color suggestions my way... i'm overwhelmed by my choices!

I haven't moved in about 23 years -- but know that I will need to do so in another five or so -- I'm already fretting about it!

And I intend that to be my last move EVER! My partner has been duly informed!

I'll be moving in a few weeks. I've been staying with a friend in MN and now I have to haul all my stuff from WI to MN which is a bit of a nightmare when you can't afford to spend a ton on moving equipment. I've decided I'm staying in Minneapolis for sure until I can afford to hire professional movers.

Having scored a rent-stabilized lease last fall in the West Village... I plan to stay as long as I can climb to the fifth floor.
