Survey: Are Stuffed Animals Part of Your Decor?

stuffedanimaldecorations.jpg

from Nina Van de Goor's Flat in Den Bosch, Netherlands

We've noticed that stuffed animals have been worked into home decor over the past few years — often taking the place of a throw pillow. We were curious to see how many of you have a stuffed animal somewhere in your home? We're not talking about your children's toys. We want to know if you have an UglyDoll standing in for a pillow on the sofa, a stuffed giraffe from Areaware, maybe a handmade animal purchased from Etsy, or a favorite hold-over from childhood. So tell us, have you worked stuffed animals into the decor of your home?

Currently I have my beloved childhood stuffed dog (Foofah) in our bedroom: as it is the same shade of blue as the accent colour!!!

In the game room we have a Toad plushie, from Super Mario fame and in the conservatory we have a few puppets which are regularly used as cushions. Especially the 3 foot high dragon puppet!!

Yes, I have a stuffed black-and-white cat pillow (with green eyes, sitting bolt upright) in one chair, which I've had for many years (and which, back in the days in which I had cats, was occasionally mistaken by a guest for a live one). About two years ago, I finally got rid of a white rabbit that says "Happy Easter" when squeezed, a gift from my ex-boyfriend. (Pathetic, huh?)

Yes, but only one: Mr. Theodore Edward Bear (Ted E. for short) whom my daddy purchased for a 3rd grade Christmas present many moons ago. He still has his red bow-tie, which he sports while lounging on my bed during the day.

I really like my stuffed animals, but I just can't steer this ship with them "as decoration." These are sentimental, and I have just a few in the closet. I think the article pertains more to people who can't say NO to Etsy.

Does this include Cat toys? If so I have many but they are hidden under the furniture and stuck in the door jams

My plushies are in my bedroom. My Samsoon pig (from the Korean soap Samsoon) is nice against the white of my comforter, the light blue of my walls and the teal of my quilt cover.

I also have a anime style mini round pillow things and a hello kitty build a bear.

I don't go to the malls because I love build a bear. I only have like two outfits for the cat... I want more, but I am refraining from looking like even more of a CCL.

I have a pink stuffed dog that my mom made for me for my 4th Christmas. I wanted a pink pound puppy and she couldn't find one, so she made it. I have it on a shelf in a hutch with glass doors.

I'm with paene. I have Mr. Big Bear my teddy bear on my bed. He is just a plain brown bear with a black nose (no red bow tie...although I could make him a tie..).

Since my colors are brown, khaki, teal and coral, he works well with the scheme. :)

It works if you only have a few. We have a daybed with a dozen pillows and a few stuffed animals sitting between them - plus a few in the reading chair in the corner of the room. It's meant to seem comfy so it works.

I have a bunny my mom made when I was born that has no head and no tail - and holes in the rest of it. It's hidden safely away until I find the perfect shadow box to display it in. However, even then it will be in the closet, where I keep things that don't mesh with my more minimalist style.

I'm actually going to create an art gallery wall in my walk-in closet -- that's where the bunny is going to go.

I have a few in the closet due to the fact that my mother keeps buying me stuffed animals even though CLEARLY I'm not a stuffed animal person. I keep them for a few years until I think she's forgotten about them and then give them away.

I have a big 'pajama cow' with a pocket in the back that your pajamas are meant to go in when visiting a friend. It is the last remaining reminder of the Era of Cow Collecting.
I have a stuffed bat man, body pillow that a friend gave me.
And a larger than life six foot long Lady and the Tramp dog that I won in a raffle when I worked at Toys 'R' Us that I just can't bear to part with.

This reminds me of a post by someone named Diana in one of the "Smallest, Coolest" contests, wondering where the stuffed animals were in a very MCM apartment. As I recall, there were a lot of "Stuffed animals in an adult's home?Gag!" responses.

I'm of that school of preference.

I have an Ugly Doll collection that I have no idea how to display without making my bedroom look like a kid's room, so they collect dust in the closet.

I still love them, though.

I love giraffes and have a stuffed giraffe wearing a jacket made to look like a giraffe-skin coat. I also have a faux giraffe skin throw (gift from my sis). We also have "male and female" raccoons on a guest room bed. Also a gift ... long story on that one!

I belong in the "sentimental" group - I've had my bear (Mr. Ted Oops-I-Sat-On-Your-Face, or Mr. Oops for short) since I was 2, hard earned by stealing it from my newborn little brother, and since we moved a lot when I was growing up he's pretty important to me. He wears a very chic scarf I got from this random shop in Paris so even though my sister in law says he looks like he's dying of Kaposi's sarcoma I think he adds a special something to the bedroom.

I've still got a few of my favorites hanging around.

I have a small collection of cartoon and Disney collectibles, including plush versions of characters ranging from Yakko, Wakko, and Dot to Brer Rabbit. Most are currently stored in a closet until I can install more shelving, though.

no. I have a few small steiff animals that will eventually make the migration from my parents house when I have a big enough place that they can live in a seldom-noticed nook, but I'm not a fan of toys lying about.

I'm not judging other people who do, but for me personally, having stuffed animals in the house at my age would be downright creepy. Not as creepy as Marie Osmond's house probably is, but creepy enough.

I don't have many decorative objects, but I do use one stuffed creature (not animals - they're plushies of web comic characters which are fictional creatures) in each of two rooms. They're essentially taking the place of a ceramic item and mainly there for a bit of fun in the room.

I can understand people not liking the whole stuffed animal thing as they probably envisage the bed piled with cute little things or whatever image they dreaded seeing in a kid's or immature adult's room, but it doesn't have to be like that. It can be tasteful, interesting, and restrained. It can also be a form of art, particularly if what is being displayed isn't some mass-made, poorly designed toy.

In the end, stuffed toys are another form of art. They can either be unique and interesting or the equivalent of a velvet Elvis painting. The mistake is in believing they are all velvet Elvis paintings simply because you have no better reference point for how to use them than your childhood bed.

I've got 5 stuffed animals out on display in my apartment: a small turtle and duck and odd looking little bear scattered about on my bookcases, a little stuffed dog a friend gave me on my dresser, and a stuffed chickadee from BirdNerd (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=34858&section_id=5372576) on my desk.

I can deal with one stuffed animal in an entire house. I have one, and only one - a very small Pooh bear on my office shelf.

Years ago, I went on a date with this guy who was living in a group home. We go up this his bedroom and on his bed were, like, 20 stuffed animals, including some very large ones. It just totally killed the moment.

I have a couple on the bed (which drives my boyfriend nuts...) and several more peering down from the top of the wardrobe... I did a major major purge several years ago, but I just haven't been able to eliminate any more. It would hurt their feelings!

Mine is similar to the one below, sans bow.
