Alchemy Side Table and Stool from CB2

Sarah from AT: CHI mentioned the Alchemy Stool yesterday and it's one of our favorites, too. We had to make certain that everyone was also aware of the Alchemy Side Table. The industrial legs and warm shesham wood tops are an iconic blend of modern and vintage style. These pieces have a similar aesthetic to Jeff Covey's Model 6 stools...

It should be noted that the stool's height is adjustable and the table's is not. The smaller stool would also make an excellent side table if you're space is limited.

Alchemy stool is $129. The stool has a diameter of 14.5" and an adjustable height of 15.25"-20.5.

Alchemy side table is $249. The table has a diameter of 25.5" and is 20.25" tall.

Very cool, but too bad the table doesn't swivel up and down like the stool. Missed opportunity.

I'm thinking about two of the stools for nightstands.

They're very similar to a glass-topped stool Holly Hunt had a few years back for $5K. Here's a pic - it's in the center of the collage: http://tinyurl.com/27y8vz

Maybe with a cake pan for a mold and a gallon or two of clear casting resin from Walmart I can make my own translucent top. Hmmm...

great find AlmostAD! not sure if the extra work would be worth it...the wood is so beautiful...

AlmostAD, it would be worth a try! If you're using the stools for nightstands, I'll assume your lighting is wall-mounted (i.e., no room for lamps).

Thanks, aaron and Jon_B!

aaron, I do like the wood, too, but that glass really captivates me.

Jon_B, Currently, I have table lamps. But, I'm thinking of hanging pendants if I go with a smaller stool/table.

I have a pile of inexpensive X10 lighting controllers, so I can just keep a little remote control on the nightstand/stool to turn the pendants on and off without having to get out of bed.

They are no longer on the CB2 site, could they have sold out that fast?

You're right LaDonna...they are no where to be found! I am guessing they had problems with manufacturing/production. I'll try to figure out what is what.

its back in stock.

btw, it asks for your zip code to verify availability, but it doesn't appear to make any difference. they "verified" my zip as "in stock" then sent me an order confirmation letting me know its backordered until march. this is the same thing that happened from the cb site when i ordered a cole nightstand in august of 07 - currently scheduled for a late march delivery.

anyway, nice alchemy stool but LAME company - order furniture w/caution.

Has anyone seen the stool in person? It doesn't look like a good idea for a side table because it's slightly convex to make for comfier seating, but anything you put on it would slide towards the center - I think? Could someone please let me know if the stool's surface is as flat as the table's? Thanks a lot.
