apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

AT Email: Hola Y Adios Table, The Slimest, Coolest Landing Strip - 3.31.08

March 31, 2008

City hallways tend to be narrow, small or non existent, but some kind of "landing strip" is essential if you are going to keep your apartment from getting overwhelmed by outside clutter like keys, change, phones, mail and doggie poo bags ;-). A perfect entryway acts as a "filter" that allows you to leave the outside world at your door and keep your inside world calm. Beyond coathooks, wastepaper basket and check-out mirror, you need a SURFACE of some kind, but most are TOO BIG. This one - the "hello & goodbye" table - is not.

The Hola Y Adios is a Spanish design that we found at DWR and used half a dozen times in client's apartments. Surprisingly, we've never seen anything else like it. It's 40 inches long and only 10 deep, solidly built (heavy) out of maple (wenge stain) and has a metal plate on the back that allows you to attach it to your wall with just a few screws.

This is a great solution for a small entryway. The only other choice we know of is to take a small table and cut it in half. >> Hola Y Adios Link

Another, more froufrou design that might work in hallways is Umbra's Biblioteca bookshelf . Not entirely to my taste, but I stumbled across it when looking for slim hallway storage (anyone know where I can find cheap 8" wide bookcases?).

hmmm...both entry tables are interesting, but not exactly what I'm looking for....does anyone have any other ideas for where to find a narrow entry table??

Echoing jkgalbny, I too am looking for a narrow entry table, with approximately the same measurements as the Hola y Adios, but in white. Any ideas?

Shouldn't it be "slimmest", not "slimest"? Makes me think of "slimiest".

Try Room and Board's Slim - very similar and a lot cheaper.
