Marcel Wanders' Kate Cabinet

Divine Details! Like yesterday's post on Sean Dix's Giulia Media Credenza, the elegant details in the design of Marcel Wanders' Kate Cabinet make its outrageous price a bit more understandable...

I saw this in person about a week ago and wish I would have had the forethought to take a picture! The delicate proportions and crisp black-stained and white-lacquered finish grabbed my attention from across the room this is no small feat for a tiny cabinet in a store full of modern furniture and furnishings. Upon closer inspection, the grain of the solid ashwood shows through the stain and lacquer and is subtley beautiful. The brass hardware consist of a snake and a half-eaten apple. (This would be an exquisite gift for my sister, Eve.)
My favorite feature is the vaccuum-closing drawers. Each drawer silently pulls itself shut when left a bit ajar. This feature is so cool that we watched it a few times in awe.

This tiny cabinet is perfect as a bedside table and measures W 20" x D 14" x H 28". It's made of solid ash wood, with brass handles. Available from the Conran Shop for $3325. I never said it was affordable!

Oooh, vacuum-closing drawers. That would be worth... um... still perhaps slightly less than that, but still, it's neat!
