p(too) -- ya always seem to nail it for maximum humorous impact with minimal effort.

thanks for the laughs
hey where are those silly and stupid happy face logos littering other commentitious sites? I could use a falling over a gracefully turned table in paroxisms of laughter bobbing yellow head icon about now
i've seen a few things at west elm recently that are that same shiny black laquer, and i love it.
i've also been seeing a lot of mirror-topped tables lately. they're very cool, except they really look like something one ought to do coke off of. don't get one of these if you want to look like a responsible, sober, grownup...
Oh you KNOW I bought two of these (but in white) the day they came out. The best part is the shipping was SO cheap and the tables came in two days!!! They're even sexier in person. ;-)
And incidentally, contrary to opo's strange comment about mirrored tables that have been around for ages, I did NOT buy them to do coke off of ... to SET a Coke on, maybe, but not ...
So I guess mirrored furniture in the '30s was hot for all that Hollywood blow...? ;-)
I HATE this stuff! I seriously hope baroque isn't the new big thing for the next few years. How far away can the Rooms To Go Stevie Nicks collection be?
i'm sensing a good question in our future.
"i'm really interested in getting one of these mirror-top baroque tables in white for blowing lines, and i'm wondering if any AT readers have tried doing a line or two off of it. is it wobbly? is it a little too low to the ground for proper coke usage? thanks in advance for any advice!"
i didn't say the only reason one would buy one would be to do coke off it. just that i keep seeing them around and having that thought. i'm also aware that a mirrored table top is not a new idea -- i've mostly been seeing them in vintage funiture shops, randomly enough.
i like this table and think it's a great piece.
and cocaine in snortable powder form has been around much, much longer than the 70's. try the 1880's.
That whole baroque look screams nouveau riche to me. Feels tacky unless it is done sparingly or with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Or, according to opo, straw planted firmly in nose.
Thank you eric and p2! You gave me my first giggles of the day (only diet coke involved, I promise)
I think opop is funny, and she isn't trolling.( if we ban opop, we should ban Nisha too- she isn't doing a whole lot to promote positivity in this community with HER post, either.)
For cocaine, or for coca-cola, these tables kind of blow.
I'm no fan, but comparing opo to jonathan is totally not fair to opo.
i like this particular table, and i have a fondness for laquer-like surfaces; however, a whole room of shiny baroque/goth would make me inwardly wince.
i think that this table -- and overall style -- is not dummy proof. for example, i can throw together minimalist furniture for a room, and it'll look ok. may not look stunning, but at worst it'll be a bit bare/boring. however, throw together a room of random baroque/goth furniture, and the potential eyesore can be much worse.
Ami—
I think the reason a lot of people are responding to these curvy shapes is that the majority of affordable modern was all angles for a long time...personally, I love the idea of mixing a little of each. I don't think anyone wants an entire room of turned wood furniture in glossy colors—but a lot would like 1 or 2 well-placed pieces.
Love that this is has a mirror top and is round but not too fond of the colors. I would like one in a wood tone and maybe simpler lines. Any suggestions?
Baroque is just this years gothic revival ...
