Dear AT,
Help me choose a coffee table please.
The carpet is coming up tomorrow and the oak hardwood floor underneath will be finished in natural.
There is a brick fireplace opposite the large sofa painted antique white.
The rest of the room (desk, large bookcase) is "transitional" in style...

Do I match the curve of the Paulin ribbon chair with something like Noguchi or do I go rectangular, maybe glass?
Also any ideas for an area rug?
Thanks! Mary
I'm a big fan of glass coffee tables, I'd go for that

Are you keep those sofas?

I'd say to only go with glass if you don't have kids or pets- they collect fingerprints and little marks like no other! We got rid of ours because of this.

That seems like a few too many big pieces of furniture for that one area, but if you choose to keep it that way, I would have to second the glass coffee table....round.

Yeah, I'd get rid of the kids for that too!

I agree- round glass.

I'd reupholster those sofas first...

I do need help, don't I? It seems from comments so far that my paisley sofas are not good so I'm open to suggestions on replacing them. What should I get to best complement the chair?

That chair is uber-modern, and the sofas nowhere near, so decide which direction you like best and then chose (or release) accordingly.

Now I won't feel so rude about suggesting that you should do something with those sofas! Given the blue chair (nice!) I'd go with either solids for the sofa and love seat, (lime green, orange, red, etc.) or complimenting prints in the same color palete (see inspiration below).

And as for glass, unless you like glass, I'd go for something solid, like a super-size ottoman and tray. If you find a round set, even better. Good luck!

OK I should definitely get rid of those sofas. How about a solid grey color for them?

while we're on the coffee table discussion - any suggestions for how far from the couch the coffee table should be?
Seems like mine is always either too far or too near.
