NY Good Questions: Who Makes This Table?

5.27table.jpgDear AT,

I'd like to know who makes this table.

A friend of mine gave it to me because it didn't fit in his new apartment.

The wood is a veneer and the bracing on the bottom is a heavy aluminum (I think).

It is about 94.5" long x 23.5" wide, and stands only 7" off of the floor.

It is also very heavy - maybe 175lbs.

Any ideas?

Thanks! Kyle

It looks like a DIY/hack.

yeah, looks like a hack judging by the holes in the corners of the table

Looks like the top of a credenza/dresser mated directly to the base - the drawers/doors, sides, etc, must have been damaged and tossed out.

actually the more I look at it, it might be an old IKEA Galant/Effectiv top and frame hack.

I don't know what it is, but I think I would constantly bash my toes and/or shins on it. What are you going to use it for?

Just because something is used doesn't mean it's a "hack" job. The guy said he got it from a friend.

I don't know, Kyle. Keep doing research. I doubt a "hack" job would weigh so much. You might have a proze on your hands.

Just found out what a IKEA hack is. Sorry.

What do you do with a table that sits 7" off the ground? (Seriously, i'm curious.)

I'm genuinely curious, too - what are you planning to do with it?

Thank you for the response. It may very well be some sort of DIY job, but it most definitely is not IKEA. The table top is solid 3" piece of wood with a veneer. It's a beast.

What to do with it? Well, My friend had it in front of a long sofa with about a 12" seat height. It worked well in that setup, where a normal height table would have been too tall.

I may end up selling it after I hit my ankles on it over the next few weeks. Or, maybe hack it to fit my needs.

Thanks again.

I'd probably end up using it as a low media console-type thingie - provided the seating in the room is low enough. Not a complete waste of an item I don't think. Could look quite nice in the right setting.

This is a solid wood door with custom made legs on it. Nothing more.
