Slab Table by Tom Dixon

Not all tables are equal. In the search for a dining table, we have met frustration with the lack of solid wood choices and clean, classic designs. The Slab Table by Tom Dixon is solid oak and the design is so simple it's beautiful.

We love the shape of the legs, the rounded edges of the tabletop and the solid oak construction that's made to last. Now, that's a table!

How is the base attached to the top? Is there a sliding dovetail batten for allowing the expansion and contarction of the top with changes in temperature and humidity?

Mea culpa. contarction=contraction

the wood looks messed up

I kind of like the look of it though. There are some cool clean designs too made from solid teak wood in a small shop in the East Village. I got a table and a bench from this place.

Cool - it showed up in this month's Living Etc. (or was it UK Elle Decor?), and I was meaning to google it because I was so taken with it. Supremely elegant design, and love the textured top, which contrasts so stunningly with the streamlined base and legs. Definately a contender in our Great Dining Table Hunt.

Is it dark or blonde colored? can't tell..either way it is quite nice- picnic & worn looking.

The grain in the wood looks like it would make the table a nightmare to clean. Otherwise it is a beautiful design - I wonder why such an obvious flaw? I mean, if it was for people who never put food on it, okay. But for anyone (ie me) with a toddler - ick.
So I guess my search for the perfect dining table goes on....

Any of you Tom Dixon fans know where to buy the pendant lamps in his 'Beat' series in the US? Couldn't get a response to my inquiry on his website and DWR doesn't carry them. Hmmm...

It looks like the table has a slightly glossy finish, so I'd guess the texture is coated with something. No cleanup worries...

Us Canadians are at work today, so I thought I'd post about the dining room table that my husband and I just bought.
The Union dining table from Cabinet in Toronto. www.cabinetfurniture.ca
It's solid maple, with extensions that slide in at either end.
The price was reasonable, made by a 3rd generation woodworker, in Canada.
We looked high and low for a table and are very happy we chose this one in the end.
