The Hydra Table

2004_11_29_hydra.gifThese tables become the life of every party.

If you are looking for dual duty furniture, the Hydra Table does it and makes it fun at the same time. With a solid pedestal base and a simple hydraulic lifting mechanism, you can go from coffee table to dining table in moments.

We have used Hydra tables in one of our episodes of Mission Organization to great effect, and found that even if you don't need to raise your table that often, you'll do it anyway to show guests...

These tables come in many variations with tops in glass or corian, bases in wood and steel, and sizes from cofffee table to bar table in different diameters. Available starting at $1300 from Hydra Designs and at the D&D building.

I know of a designer who created a similar table, using the base to a vintage barber's chair, which he had nickel-plated, then fitted with a glass top.

Does this company make any hydraulic tables in wood?

I have emailed the company about stores in my area which would carry the Hydra Tables. I have not received a response. Is there another way to contact them/find the tables??

Different versions of this style of table are available from marine supply stores.

$300 version

You can even get just the bases and make your own.

I want the chair version of this -- something that can adjust from kitchen counter height down to dining table height.

While the hydra tables are sorta nice (they remind me of the salon chairs in my mother's salon), I like the version that "Calumet" posted better. The price is MUCH lower on those and they look more home-friendly. Plus you wouldn't have the lever sticking out in someone's way if they should be sitting at the table in dining height. The marine table seems to be the better way to go.

I was just looking into designing my own coffee table that lifts to dining height for my small living room. I think I'll buy a base and get my own wood.

Thanks, Calumet!

Wow I hate these. They look like hair salon chairs. Years ago I saw beautiful adjustable tables from the 30s in Soho - gorgeous wood. But this is just yuck.

there are bases (also adjustable) and adj.tables in chairs.ws, there you have the examples:
round table
adjustable round table
another adj.round table

for Alan: I like this, this and this!
isn't it really hard to go for one and leave the others??
I wish I had a home big enough (and a corresponding wallet) :)
