This lives up to its namesake. The Wow Dining Table at The Conran Shop is probably the best extending table we've ever seen. There are no "hidden parts" that don't keep up with the aesthetic quality of the exposed parts of the table.
The table consists of two equal beech wood leaves on an aluminum frame. When folded shut, you've a 47x30" table. When unfolded, the size expands to 82.5x30". A pivoting arm offsets the tabletop to recenter it when opening and closing. Sorry for the small photo - there don't seem to be any large ones out there.

Nice.. but $1700 ?? I love great design, but this is when I'm glad IKEA is around for the pure basics. (See Conran's "Basics Oak Table" for $650.)

Not to nitpick...but I don't think the two leaves could be of equal length given that in the extended position it's 82.5" long and in the closed position it's 47" long. The hidden leaf must be 82.5"-47", or 35.5" long. Unless I'm not really understanding the mechanics of how it works. Not that it really matters, but that would mean the "seam" would be off center when the table is fully extended. That could potentially give someone heartburn who was looking to buy the table, or you could look at it as visually interesting I guess. I imagine a marginally handy person could make one of these without incredible difficulty and for a lot less green. Look for it in the next issue of ReadyMade?

So glad you featured this! We've been admiring this table online but haven't made time for a trip to New York to see it. (Frustrating, because we used to live 10 mins. from the Marylebone Conran Shop in London, but now we have to drive 4 hours... :( ) We couldn't find any additional photos either, and the phone call and catalogue I requested from the store haven't presented themselves. Anyone who has this or has seen it in the shop willing to add a few extra comments? Is the aluminum finish shiny or matte? Can you see the grain on the beech? When the table is closed, does any wood hang over the metal frame or does it sit flush with the edges? How's ordering from the store?
