California Girls. We first saw Alex Marshall's shop in the late 90's while visiting friends in Mill Valley. We walked by the large glass window and looked in on a number of long dining tables stacked high with luscious, thick white plates and bowls. The combination of the pottery and the shiny wet, white glaze convinced us that heaven would be a house with only this dinnerware and nothing else.
In the years since, we have watched as Ms. Marshall's tiny store has blossomed and her plates have now spread around the country and been written up in magazines. While she has added colors, pattern and new items to her line, the original white line still beckons. It is popular with wedding registries, and our friends in Mill Valley have taken to giving us one piece a year, which is all that our small apartment can hold.
