Earlier today, we featured an image of Royal Copenhagen's Blue Fluted Mega dinnerware pattern in the New York Open Thread — we've recently become slightly obsessed with this hand-painted pattern after seeing it in person at both Williamsburg's Scandinavian Grace and the new Williams-Sonoma Home store at Columbus Circle...

In 2000, Denmark's Royal Copenhagen began producing a new dinnerware service based on its classic Blue Fluted pattern that has been in production since the company's founding in 1775 (this is the pattern at the left, in the top image). Known as Blue Mega, the new design by Karen Kjældgård-Larsen enlarges and abstracts the original pattern — and even uses the hand-painted signature of Royal Copenhagen as a design element:

Produced in the same shapes and sizes as the original and by the same techniques, Blue Fluted Mega can be mixed in to supplement the original service. This adds an amazing historical reference and practical functionality to the collection! The Mega pattern is also available in Black.
I saw this at the Royal Copenhagen flagship store in Copenhagen this past summer...
...it's absolutely beautiful - but I didn't have room in my luggage to bring any back with me!
(Tho I did make room for some Georg Jensen candlesticks from next door)

I love this kind of historical revival/renewal.

I've always loved this pattern. I'd like to get some pieces, but here's where you come in AT -- I'd like to combine it with my Meissen Blue Onion china, and Moser (Lady Hamilton) crystal.
I've sussed out that Moss stacks all of these, and has combined them in exciting ways, but I can't get to Moss these days.
Any suggestions on how to do it? Have you noticed how Moss combines them?

A great update of the classic. Having started a Royal Copenhagen collection as a student in Denmark, I'm really glad to see this line gaining some attention. Funny though, it's now *much* easier to find this new pattern in person while shopping than it is to find the old one. Plus, it comes in black.
Also, I'm a little bit in love with their new Elements series, also a take on the old pattern, but with more color:

I have a few pieces from the Blue Palmette series, which is a similar idea of blowing up portions of an older pattern, and I love it. Beyond all reason.

I had a presentation on this collection about a week ago at Neiman's and I completely fell in love. I love the Modern interpretation of a piece that is still current after so many generations!!!! The great thing is that they are always making them so you can buy them little by little.

I have always loved the classic Royal Copenhagen pattern. Like the others, I think the modern interpretation has kept the sincerity of the original with an updated twist. I too am very excited about the revival of the classics.

Johnson Bros makes a design reminiscent of the Royal Copenhagen "Half-Lace" pattern. I've been able to find the plates in TJMaxx this autumn and last for $4 each.
