KnifeForkSpoon Flatware: By Jasper Morrison

We were strolling through the MoMA store (Midtown) a few weeks ago, smugly smiling over the fact that we'd seen everything in it already, only to be surprised by the fact that we hadn't. Our smugness faded.

11-9-jasper.jpgAmong other things, we really liked this new flatware from Jasper Morrison. Like all of our favorite designs, it is a subtle update on many others, but it has a simplicity and elegance that we've not seen before. This is flatware that will show off the food, feel nice in the hand and age well.

From the Alessi 2004 line, the set is 18/10 stainless steel and comes in high polish or matte. The price is good too. We found the five piece set for $42 at MoMA ($38 members), while Unica Home sells the six piece set for $57.

The DATA cutlery set from IKEA has a similar look and feel. Cheap at $25 for a set of 20.

Just purchased this set. Great looking, good quality and relatively affordable.

I purchased the set from www.questodesign.com in the Netherlands for a decent discount off what US online retailers sell it for. Service was excellent, but took about a month for them to get it from Alessi and send it to me.

Joe C, you took the words right out of my mouth!
Those rascals at Ikea...

There *is* a MOMA 20% member discount day coming up however...

I'm so happy to see this set of cutlery (flatware) highlighted! I have many sets, but this one has a subtlety that my similar Ikea set cannot match (nor my Hackman Citterio set that I had earlier but was dreaming of this set until it was produced) for one very important reason - it is created with such consistently high refinement, each item down to the espresso spoon delights me. I really like my Ikea and Hackman set (I mention them because they seem to be from the same school of thought) but they are so, so, so very distant second place finishers compared to the quality of this Jasper Morrison for Alessi set. Now I think I'll go have something to eat just to use them again. Cheers!
