All three are wonderful, but the map quilt is brilliant. Quilts can sometimes be associated with traditional design, but this one is just oh so contemporary. A lot of love and even more work must go into making one, so I understand the price. Just wish I could afford spending over 3k on one.

The Soft-Maps are so cool! Super excited to see from your website that they are available at the Brooklyn Flea - can't wait to see them in person.

I'll take one of each. Wow, my apt would look SO much better!! Emily, would you make a 1:1 scale Soft-Map of NYC & lay it down under our Midwestern feet? Much appreciated, thanks!

These are all great. A lot of inspiration and thought went into each one. I really like the bookshelf because I see it as having great lines, versatile, functional... and timeless. I love the other two, but I see them as something I would enjoy... for a while, then put away.

It's hard to decide what criteria to use to vote on. Should personal taste play such a big role? The maps are nice, and look like so much hard work it actually makes my bones ache to look at them, but... I just don't want one.

The Rug, likewise, looks great, but I feel it's been compromised on functionality; the function of a rug, of course, being punishingly stomped up and down on day in day out, taking the occasional spillage on the proverbial chin and not breaking grandma's neck when she shuffles into town for a visit.

Jason's bookshelves: a great example of form following function and looking good doing it. A design I can actually utilize. My vote goes here.

I like the Soft Maps but I've been put off by all the aggressively cheering fans with new AT accounts.

Judging from all the new accounts, I get the impression that this is not so much a "best design" contest so much as a "recruit the most voters" contest.

ChristopherB: That's been the case with nearly all the AT contests. It has resulted in some unfair and bad results.

Agreed: and I believe that's why guest judges were included to level the playing field. Best wishes to all,

EXACTLY! One overall winner from readers, and one overall winner from the the three judges. These two filters combined are designed to do the job.

But also remember that design, like art, has a large subjective component and what people are drawn to often surprises.

I could totally lounge around on one of those Redeploy Rugs while reading or doing a crossword puzzle and listening to music.

I think that the designer's description of her rug as more of a "floor cushion" should answer a lot of the questions raised about its thickness and how to clean it.

Nicely done.

The good book shelf is brilliant. It's so clean, simple and has space to store large books on their side! I'm so tired of my large and/or rare and old books getting warped by standing on end without proper support. Thanks for covering all the bases!

It's the rug that one wants to curl up on, in a sunny spot, with a good book. Love the color & material used. Very innovative....... it's got my vote!

The good books shelf is the equivalent of redesigning a string of christmas lights -- you can hardly imagine a visionary solution, but here it is. I love it!

There is something whimsical about the soft maps concept...I love the work of all three designers, but this is the one that gets my vote!

I like Emily's quilts and am not a new member.
The combo of maps & quilts, plus thinking of production pieces while still offering hand made originals appeals to me a lot. This is not dissn' the other entries, just casting my vote & wanting to see where she goes with it if she wins.

I actually think that all three of your choices are pretty "lame"--considering how many finer designs are out there! Of the three, I voted for the "soft maps"--but wouldn't want ANY of these in my home!

Love the bookshelf and would totally use it multiple places in my house. Soft maps won my vote though, I love the idea as much as the research, mapping and quilting that has to go into each project.

hey kushkush,

"Why are you writing about this here? Can't you come up with anything more trenchant?"

but I'm happy that at this point, it's irrelevant.

I love the shelves and want them in my home, and I can see the rug going in homes all over Scandanavia, but the soft maps got my vote. I often look at a new product or design and think 'I can't believe no one thought of that before!' In this case, it's so original and unprecedented I can believe no one thought of it before. It's also relatively affordable, which is always nice.

I have to agree that the large number of voters who registered solely to vote for Soft Maps is a bit disconcerting. IMHO, it diminishes the credibility of the competition. I am, however, anxious to see what the judges pick.
