Introducing Aaron Maximillian Gleason and his renderings of “energy as a tangible substance..."

Here are seven mixed-media works from a collection of 50 wood panels, each with areas of delicate ink drawing on paper framed with softly-handled, gleaming white enamel paint. It's a bit hard to see the texture in these photos, but each has a softly varied surface, and the contrast of the delicate paper with the harder white surround is pretty delicious.

I learned that the recurring motif of small flowers in his work, "symbolize clusters of energy; representing motion and tension between people and their literal or figurative surroundings."

Gleason's work reminds me of drawings by the Austrian artist, Egon Shiele, which have a similar compressed expressiveness and often were haloed in white.

These 16 x 16 panels are priced very reasonably for work on sale in a Chelsea gallery; $400 per 16 x 16 panel. Each panel stands beautifully on its own, tho depending on your budget, space and taste, they can be grouped to stunning effect. The gallery has an installation of 30 together in a grid.

There are also two larger pieces included in the show -- one featured below.

Hey Amy, I've noticed there is a decidedly illustrative bent to your choices... any particular reason why?

And any plans for anything more painterly or even photographic coming up?
