Empress M. 24 x 30, oil on canvas
Introducing Cynthia Kirkwood.
I love how this artist takes intimate, joyful experiences and simplifies them into planes of light and lush color. These paintings are satisfying to me as much for their design as for their stories. Enjoy!

I adore Cynthia Kirkwood and have kept tabs on her for a number of years. I started out in the framing (picture framing) business when I was sixteen, so a lot of the things that come across sites like this for art is just another addition to the miscellaneous art file in my head.
Thank you so much for presenting her here - I think that the readers will really enjoy her art. It's an excellent way to splash a room with color!
I like these a lot.
Looks like Cynthia is knocking off the late Sally Michel, wife of the late Milton Avery. They look eerily similar...

and milton avery for that matter

but I still like them.
Well, they probably all got that look from Matisse et al, but they're still nice.
I agree, very Milton Avery. Really too much so. I have made illicit prints of his and am guilty of fetishizing them. His colors are so suave and modern, and the stories a bit more strong and confident than these. I applaud Cynthia, it's just hard to get past the Milton copycatness. Hope she finds her own vision.
Well I like these paintings. And for the record, I would like to say that a 'knockoff' is a Fendi bag selling for three bucks in Chinatown. It's a direct copy. These paintings are not knockoffs! What a thing to say! If she was influenced or inspired by someone - that's the HISTORY OF ART!
So who 'knocked off' who, originally, Milton or Sally...this is so silly.
The internet is such a poor venue for appreciating paintings, see one of cynthias paintings in real life, they are fabulous.
I love these and have seen her work before. She has a wonderful charm and deserves great success with her work.
Cynthia Kirkwood will get her break as a young artist. Someone who can portray optimism and beauty through such colour will not remain hidden for long. She has great depth and spiritual goodness.
Keep painting on! You are blessed with rare talent Cynthia.
I HAVE ENJOYED CK'S WORK BEFORE, MANY YEARS AGO. SHE WAS TALENTED THEN AND I AM ABSOLUTELY THRILLED TO CATCH UP WITH THE CURRENT AND VERY TALENTED CK NOW my experience is that HER marvelous visions ENDURE.
I have known Cynthia since she was a child. I have seen her evolve from a beautiful child to a sensitive, caring, gorgeous woman. Her talents are endless. And anyone who thinks she is any kind of copycat should have the privilege of seeing her art when she was a child. Susan hit it right on the head. Cynthia certainly was inspired by her life experiences and it is so gloriously portrayed in her work. The IS her history in art.
