In honor of Pet Month, allow me to introduce
David Pfendler, an illustrator with a side interest in pet portraits.
I was first charmed by the sweethearts in his "Mugs" series when they were up earlier this year at the Grey Dog cafe in the west village. David kindly sent me a few new ones, not posted on his website, for you all to enjoy.

Those are VERY good. And they also look kinda hip.
Mason--the French Bulldog--above is my pup! Fun to suddenly see his 'portrait' on my favorite website. David is a super nice guy and fantastic artist. His graphic style artwork has been featured in a host of commercial adds for major companies. I think he's really talented and has a great eye for color.
Mason is such a cute dog, jojo! A very sultry gaze, there.
I love these portraits. They remind me a bit of paint-by-colors. And I mean that in a very good way.
I just contacted the artist and he is no longer doing commissions. SO sad. I am very dissapointed that my adorable Brewster can not be depicted in such a great graphic style. Does any one have any ideas on artists that do great pet portraits?
The artist is such a cool guy, maybe he'd consider keeping your dog portrait 'on-hold' until maybe a slower time in his business when he can get to it. He was admittedly phasing out of the pet portraits when Grey Dog featured his work in the cafe and a flurry of requests came in to him.
I kinda like them, but im not sure....they look too much like paint by numbers to me. Maybe it's because my gramma did a kitten version of a paint by number that i remember from when i was little and it's stuck with me...hah,
