Introducing Gaines Peyton .

I am feeling so lucky! Finally I'm in town while Gaines Peyton is showing her paintings...at last I'll get a good look at these. I love the layers and layers of oils and encaustic, the mysterious hovering patches of colors, the composition of trees, branches, bodies of water and light.

And these enigmatic birds! Always in profile, egg-shaped, and floating as if flying without any effort. When you see a grouping of these paintings, you realize that some of these birds are particular birds, particular characters, that appear over and over in different settings. There is much to puzzle and wonder about...

I encourage people to go see Ms. Peyton's paintings at the Fischbach Gallery
where they will be exhibited until December 16. The gallery is located at 210 Eleventh Avenue (between 24th and 25th Streets)and open Tues to Saturday, 10 – 5:30.

When she isn't painting, Ms. Peyton is co-director of the Sears-Peyton Gallery (with founder Macie Spears) which specializes in works on paper by contemporary American artists. It also happens to be one of the friendliest galleries I've ever strolled into, and where I've learned so much on each visit.

Get out to Chelsea and go see! Happy Thanksgiving!

For questions about these paintings, please contact the Fischbach Gallery.

I just saw these paintings at a gallery in Clinton NJ. I even looked the artist up afterwards. Glad it's posted here.
