In these first four paintings, I love the contrast of paint application -- sharper, dimensional areas alongside a staining, bleeding quality closer to watercolor.

And imagery from a curious inspiration -- "this series of paintings was inspired by the writings of Anton Chekhov, who traveled to Sakhalin, an island off the coast of Siberia. This island, which served as a penal colony, was populated mostly with women who had been convicted of 'crimes of passion'."

Tilt your screen back to make sure you are seeing all of the visual texture in these. Patterns flowing around and behind passages of softer rendering, sometimes becoming the boundaries for that atmospheric painting. Reminds me a bit of Klimt come to think of it.
