Their stillness, light, texture and atmosphere bring to mind both Giorgio de Chirico and Edward Hopper.

These are created using a complex, multi-plate, aquatint etching method. Each print has been run through the press many times, each layer of color building up a richness and luminosity difficult to achieve in other media.

In the artist’s words, “My work is about my reaction to light and the effect it has on color. Common places and things take on a richer meaning when taken out of context and etched into a plate. The process seems to elevate the image and give it nobility and permanence."

A friend spied these aquatint etchings at an exhibition of artists currently up at University Place, between 3rd and 12th Streets, running through June 4th. “I think her etchings are really something. Not too much detail, and unexpected perspectives with lots of shadows and plays on light. She was lovely to talk with, too.”

Her booth is just south of 9th St, on the east side of University Place. Noon - 8PM.
