New York, found-object sculpture
Introducing Ted Stanke:master miner at the junkyard.
With this week's heightened awareness of our neighboring states and election results across the country, I thought it would be a nice time to share the work of sculptor Ted Stanke. Ted has a knack for transforming things cast off, broken, and junked into masterful representational sculpture...in this case, each of the United States.
I've had the pleasure of seeing an installation of the lower half of the eastern seaboard, in an apartment-turned-art-gallery, in Brooklyn (that's all that could fit) Check out all the lower states, east to west, assembled below the jump...
The Lower States
In the artist's words, "Corporate empires have scattered our landscapes with more extra junk than history has ever witnessed, so building with found-objects seems unique to our time, and I embrace this."

Texas, just getting started
He has outlined all the major roadways in plastic straws and major cities are bursts of flowering aluminum.

and I’ll close with a charming turkey… thanksgiving is coming!
Green Turkey, 18"'x18"x18"
Artist note: "This is a quick piece designed around an army helmet. Free-standing, the head is actually a modified seagull. Notable features are 3 ping-pong paddles owned by my grandfather."

just one additional note, I've got all these sculptures for sale in a storage unit in Dumbo. They look great in an apartment and are easy to hang. The best part is, they don't cost much more than a months' rent on a studio apartment in the West Village.
Hey -- I wondered where those paddles went! Just kidding, Ted. Nice work. What happened to the original Texas?
Ted Stanke's work has inspired me to live my life to it's fullest. Thanks! Nicholas Knutson Whitefish, Montana
