In the context of the high school portrait those curtains are reminding me of the kinds of dresses that some high school ceremonies have the girls where white for, and the tabs at the top remind me of shoulder straps.

i fail to find this creepy.
i see it more as a timeline of growth.
a room that tells little of the child, more of the person and volumes about parents 'trusting in shadows'.
