Title: Wildfire Smoke in Birmingham, Alabama
"Hello. I live in a loft in downtown Birmingham, Alabama with a beautiful view of the city. For the last two weeks we have been getting large quantities of smoke from the terrible wildfires in Waycross, GA which is 400 miles away!..."

"Everyone here is just astounded that the smoke would travel this far and I can not even imagine the impact this has made on those that live closer. I snapped these photos on the 29th and we are expected to receive more smoke over the next few days. I just wanted to share what is happening down here in Alabama through my window. Thanks for your time and have a great day."

I remember that sky color vividly from the Everglades fires.

Yeah, there's nothing like a fire sky. I have pics from off our deck overlooking the Hayman fire....plumes of smoke (that was 50 miles away at first, and burned to within 10 miles of us down the canyon) and then the ash that fills the streets like snow.....

it was AWFUL and i live behind dreamland - a bar-b-q joint. so it smelled like roasting pork and roasting trees. everyone at my office pretty much sick for a week.

Montgomery also experienced smoke from the blaze.

I used to live behind Dreamland too....God how I miss the smell and taste of those ribs!
I live in Atlanta now, and have had "smoke days" on and off for three weeks. It looks more like LA than ATL and they advise people to stay indoors.....nice!

I live in Atlanta as well and like hdtex said it really did remind of being in the LA, San Jose Valley.

That looks horrible. I am very sorry for the people in Birmingham, like elizabeth in AL.

uggh that smoke. I'm so glad it's gone. When I would drive over the hill from Highland up 21st way, I could look out over the city and see just how far all the smoke and smog stretched. Eww.
So, so happy it's gone.

for real, though. and it happened like...a week after i quit smoking cigarettes so i got rid of one, and was breathing in another. it was pretty discouraging when i felt worse than when i was smoking! and living down there at the bottom of the hill was like it just all collected like in a swamp or something. it was nasty.

elizabeth in AL, I think it's great that you're quitting smoking. (Believe it or not, MrGreen smoked for 25 years.) Here's a tip: give yourself a reward every day, every week, every month, and a really big one after a year. Quitting is hard and you deserve a lot of prizes!
And never, ever kid yourself that you can have just one. Your brain is forever addicted and one cigarette and POOF! it's like you never quit.

guess what - it's been 4 weeks - 5 this saturday. ;-) Only 6 years for me, though. and I KNOW ABOUT THE ONE CIGARETTE!!! isn't it horrible?! i have all these friends that are like "oh i only smoke when i drink" - if i did that, i would #1- start smoking again and #2- be deathly ill. i just wish the cravings would s-t-o-p.
