This is a new idea: a persistent post for your tips only.

We get a lot of emailed tips, and we blog as many as we can, but some get left on the cutting room floor. So, in addition to sending us emails, we're going to experiment with taking tips right here (you can still email us).

We'll be pulling the best tips to posts on the front page, but this will insure that the all tips are shared immediately.

Know of a great store, product or website? Let us know right here (no questions please).

I'm considering a protection plan for the sofa I'm about to buy and the Saleslady offered a great tip.

The service plan offers cleaning of the sofa for 7 years. If they can't clean it, they'll replace the sofa.
The sales woman recommends splipping a copy of the service contract in one of those plastic binder sheaths - and then put it under the couch cushions.

That way when you vaccum the couch or flip the cushions, it's right there to remind you that you've already paid for cleanings - and the contact info is right there!

I stumbled upon a great antique shop the other day: "Pippin Home." The address is listed as 112-1/2 W 17th St (1/2 because it's located down a tiny alley). The prices are beyond reasonable, there are some good finds, and the man behind the counter was incredibly generous (he gave a brief appraisal of a mirror I bought from a *different* shop, and even cleaned off the price stickers for me!) Anyway, there are a bunch of thrift/antique stores on this stretch of street, but this one is definitely my favorite.

Along the lines of a great antique/vintage shop, I got forwarded an email from a friend about a
new home goods online store that just launched --
www.kanibalhome.com.

So far I've been keeping an eye on it and its been
updated with new items every week. Very manageable to click through because of the inventory size -- it's kind of like
shopping a small vintage store without leaving
your desk.

Take a look. And here's the original launch announcement link to the email that got forwarded --
http://kanibalhome.com/emailblast.html

Hope this helps anyone who wants to roam side streets for great finds but is stuck in a windowless office (sigh).

I second Samantha S.'s comment on Pippen Home. I bought a double drop-leaf table from them recently for a great price and the woman who helped me was extreamly nice and accomodating. It's definitely worth checking out.

THe W Hotel Store has 40% off Heavenly Beds with Code WH7G4. THat's over 400 bucks off. I have the quilted HEavenly bed and it is amazingly comfortable and firm. Not sure if the code works on other things.

Antique French industrial pieces. Egyptian chandeliers. Old RR
carts. Muchos etceteras. Pricey. If you like funky-gorgeous, this is a place to drool--and to buy, if you clip stock coupons.

--sigh--

For all I know, I got this link at AP. Too lazy to backtrack.
