This is a new idea: a persistent post for your tips only.
We get a lot of emailed tips, and we blog as many as we can, but some get left on the cutting room floor. So, in addition to sending us emails, we're going to experiment with taking tips right here (you can still email us).
We'll be pulling the best tips to posts on the front page, but this will insure that the all tips are shared immediately.

Add a tablespoon of bleach and listerine (mouthwash) to your cut flowers. The bleach kills the bacteria that usually plugs up the stem's pores, and listerine provides acid and sugar for the flowers to "eat". My cut flowers lasted 3 weeks instead of 10 days!

to save shelf space in my bathroom, i hung my extra bath towels on a plastic hanger on an over-the-door coat hanger. i folded the towels length-wise so that they would be rather slender. i was able to hang four towels to a hanger that way (simply double up the towels on each half of the hanger). if the hanger is bowing from the weight, simply double up on the hangers or use a heavy wooden suit-coat kind. next, hang a bathrobe or a nice dressing gown over the towels to hide them from view.

Charmin toilet paper plugs up my low flush toilet. Just a warning.

Hold the flusher down a few more seconds.

Here's a glass cleaning tip: use the glass cleaner made for car windshields. If something can remove bug splats, it can clean any glass! It's usually available right in the supermarket.

I've never had luck with any commercial glass cleaner. They all leave cloudy streaks. I use vinegar and water and it works great.

Check out this website for mattresses.

They have ridiculously cheap prices, then I printed it out and took it into Sleepy's and got an extra 20% off that!

Tip: when commenting on a contest entry, do not state, "it's not my taste, but...", or "glad the homeowner likes it." It is not necessary to tell the world the photos are not in your taste. Are you afraid that if you don't stick this disclaimer in people may think you actually like something that isn't very hip at the moment? The horror! Second, are you really glad the homeowner likes it? Really, are you truly glad? Because if you were glad you wouldn't have said yuck or gross or "I'm sorry". Because if you were truly "sorry" or "glad" you wouldn't have left a mean comment in the first place.

Fastkat, I have to respectfully disagree. Posters are generally intelligent enough to discern whether a color scheme has been well put together, even if it uses colors they wouldn't have chosen for themselves. It's nothing to do with how hip it is.
I suppose it's all in the tone / wording - but it doesn't necessarily have to be meant in a negative way...
(Sorry, this isn't a Tip)

Fastkat, i've seen MANY things here that are NOT my taste, BUT look GREAT. I don't like all grey or deep yellow, BUT it looks great the way that SOME people can pull it together.
A tip? Don't take everything as an insult.

Sleek and TallulahBelle, good points. I'm not insulted Sleek. I see a lot of one word and short snarky comments on contest entries. These comments offer little to the entrant or the reader. They're just noise.
I agree that it is all in the tone of the comment, but when a person says something along the lines of, "Disgusting! But if the homeowner is happy that's all that matters!", it's juvenile and takes away from the site.

LOL! I understand. :0)
