apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

8-24-chinatown.jpgChinatown Electric does not stand out on the Bowery. It's a nondescript storefront right next to the blazing yellow of Lighting by Gregory, and the kind only contractors know to step into.

Indeed, our contractor tipped us off that this is where he gets all his electrical supplies in lower Manhattan because the prices are better.

On checking it out, we were pleasantly surprised. Clearly catering to the trade, Chinatown Electric is a very efficient, well stocked business that will get you in and out in no time. Prices are good and lower than typical retail operations.

We purchased all the electrical we needed for our apartment for $250, including track lights, gem boxes, ceiling fixtures, dimmers, light bulbs and bx cable (some of which are pictured above).

You won't find any fancy design items here, but for basic apartment repairs and cheap solutions, it's a great resource.

just went to chinatown electric where the service was excellent and the prices even better. got two eight foot tracks, 14 halogen track lights, 5 rocker switches and two dimmer switches for about $300. they threw the lights in for free. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
