Top 10: Blankets

We're well into winter now. Which has many thinking of nestling in and snuggling up with a great blanket. The best blankets are fun to own because they can add beauty to your home, make for comfy snuggling, and last through years of cold-weather experiences. Some of our faves are after the jump...

One more to add so the West/Pacific Northwest can represent: Pendleton!

I have a Scandia Down comforter that I use year-round. It's incredible--totally worth the money.

Thanks for the intro to the HBC blankets. I'd never heard of them before.

Silk comforters are a wonderful alternative to down.

HBC blankets are the best, and have a very long history. They were used for trading for pelts in Canada, and have been around for hundreds of years.

I'm a canuck and have always loved the Hudson's Bay blanket, but... damn... those Swiss Army blankets are nice too.

The Slanket is the best blanket I've ever owned. Huge, warm, soft, and has sleeves. It's great stuff.

After coveting one for a while (see above) I bought one of the Swiss Army blankets off of ebay. It's a bit rougher than I had anticipated, but a couple of washes softened it up (and shrunk it down a bit).

It's way too small for a queen sized bed, but has happily found a spot folded across the back of my favorite leather club chair. :)

I have two kinds of blankets I love:

The first are a bunch of cheap fleece blankets that are soft and warm and light and make sparks when they rub together. I've made them a bit more personal by adding blanket stitching and even one I call the "Franken-Blanket" where I used thick yarn in a contrasting color to sew up a bunch of holes my dog made when she chewed on it. It actually looks cool.

The second are my Pendleton blankets (yo - Northwest represent). Beautifully designed, well made and meant to last for generations. The vintage designed camp blankets go especially well with both classic and modern decor: http://www.pendleton-usa.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=48&path=1%2C2%2C6%2C48
