Loo Table by Richard Hutten

More outhouse chic? This is plain and simple. It's a Loo Table, a little wooden table with a dowel for holding extra toilet paper.

We like its rustic plain-ness: The stubby legs are absolutely orthagonal. And while this plain-jane bathroom accessory is simple, it is also humorous and cute!

i've been on the mad hunt for an extra tp holder. i'm just not in love with the quality of the stainless canisters at target or bedbath.

anyone have any cool finds or links? i'm really trying to find something in chrome, that's quality, but i'm finding nada.

now if only it weren't 100 bucks....

Adorable, but I think my cats might interpret this as a scratching post.

It is cute, but it would take up more floor space in my bathroom, which I'd rather not do. (And $100?)

I once saw an interesting DIY--a string hung from the ceiling, with a popsicle stick tied onto the end, right about toilet level, with the toilet paper roll threaded onto the string and the popsicle stick holding it on. Could be cool in certain bathrooms (okay, maybe summer camp bathrooms), and so cheap as to be basically free.

My favorite creative TP technique -- there's a club in San Francisco that runs bicycle chains from hook to hook and threads the rolls along that. Very industrial grunge...

Ugh, I associate visible storage of toilet paper rolls with depressing, terrifying public school bathrooms wtih toilet paper rolls on locked cables.

I've never understood why people store toilet paper (or towels, for that matter)out in the open, given how much dust accumulates on them. My toilet paper (along with laundry soap and paper towels) gets stored in the built-in hamper in the wall in my bathroom

Another nice decor moment is to spread about a 1,000 Q Tips on a serving tray, and place it on top of the toilet.

Or, fill empty wine bottles with tampons. Looks especially nice on a windowsill, in the light.

I prefer to keep multiple rolls of toilet paper on horizontal rods, instead of vertical as pictured above. Even better if the rolls are of varying ply, print, and manufacture. This way one can use different rolls, depending on mood.

Yeah, but wende, it makes the bike IMPOSSIBLE to ride! ;)

I knew p(too) would be able to go somewhere with the idea of chains...

I can go ANYwhere in chains. Oh, you said *with* chains.

Nevermind.

I don't have any bad associations with visible TP storage, though I can understand when people do. I've got a white wire hanger that hangs on the side of the toilet tank that holds 4 rolls with their circular ends visible. It's kind of graphically cool, as well as easy to reach in an urgent situation.

"Nevermind?" P (too) in chains, preferably with his computer keyboard just out of reach, is always on my mind.

Back to toilet paper...
Wouldn't a plunger serve this same purpose? Obviously, not the same one you use for plunging...

My grandmother had extra loo paper woollen cosies (as in "tea-cosy") in baby pink which made me cringe but which I might just rescue as I see they are due for a comeback" I keep extra loo paper in the cabinet below the bathroom sink, and just grab them in an emergency...

There are also baskets specifically designed to store two rolls, and they have lids. Have seen them at Pottery Barn Bed & Bath.

p2, when i get there i really hope i dont see rolls of paper on your plunger.

Ikea has a toilet paper holder, a silver metal pole that mounts to the wall, and can hold about 4 rolls. I feel like it was under $20. I love it because I don't have to get angry about someone not changing the toilet paper roll.

I also just stash my TP in the bathroom cabinet, but I like the idea of something creative to have it more out in the open--so guests know where it is. My grandma used to sew little cozies too--just a folded over piece of fabric, with two seams in the middle so that 3 rolls fit snuggly, and then topped off with a ring that fit around a doorknob. I've thought about modernizing that design, but I still don't really like it.

i was thrown by the the word orthagonal, regina did you mean orthogonal because of all the right angles?, used in regard to toilet paper.

posted by patrick on 2007-03-16 15:06:43

Any sort of toilet-paper storage or display other than sitting on a shelf or in a closet or cabinet is just plain ole white-trash tacky. You don't buy things to display (or hide) toilet paper other than the dispenser. Why? If you have to ask, go ahead and do it.
