web_header_logo.gifIf you are looking for something real nice for the bathroom, OR if you just want to browse and dream, a trip to Waterworks is advised.

4-11--water-3.jpgOriginally a SoHo fixture, Waterworks set itself apart years ago by celebrating the vintage New York look, steering clear of modern Italian bathroom design. For example, Thomas O'Brien of Aero is one of their designers.

Waterworks sells everything that goes near water: tubs, sinks, "water closets", tile and all the hardware you could ever need. This is extremely chic stuff and meant to get you thinking about just how much fun it would be to spend a lot of money on your bathroom.

There are two stores in NYC (57th st is the other one) and a new one is said to be opening in the Flatiron district soon.

If bath accessories are your interest, Waterworks opened up an adjoining shop devoted to towels, robes, soaps and other nice stuff a few years back. This is a good stop during gift giving season.

Frommers says: The place to give that most sacred of rooms, the bath, a whole new, luxurious look.

My waterworks toilet doesn't flush well unless I stand there and hold the handle up for ages.

But toilet and sink look good.

I just saw the CEO of Waterworks speak last weekend at a panel on "Luxury Goods" (at a business school). I've been a huge admirer of their products for many years -- even if I can't afford them myself! -- and it was quite nice to see the emphasis he placed on creating and selling high-quality products. I'm a bit disappointed to hear your toiled doesn't flush! but I do think that Waterworks as a company is really committed to making bathtime a really enjoyable luxurious experience. (maybe you should see if they can help you fix the toilet --)

I love Waterworks! Even if they did discontinue my favorite - the "advance" vanity. Hopefully they will replace it with something just as yum.

Does anyone know about their "tent sale" that takes place in Connecticut? They seem to sell off products cheaply there (judging from stuff I've seen on Craig's List from people who bought tiles, etc, there) but I have no idea how to find out when and where it is.

Just did a bath with Waterworks stuff (tub, fixtures, etc, not softgoods) for the first time. Here's my rundown. The store employees were worse than useless. They made it seem as if I was interrupting them from more important (and lucrative) work. Once a sale is made, don't bother asking for store follow-up help when it turns out mistakes were made (and many were, in my case)! The saleswomen I dealt with made it clear that it was no longer their concern (even though the errors were theirs). HOWEVER, the folks at headquarters corrected every wrong move made by the store, and they did so quickly and willingly. Unlike other bath supply stores I have dealt with! So the company gets big points for that.

Their prices are unreal, but their upper-end fixtures are unlike anyone else's in design and quality. Their lower-end ones (they do have a few) can be duplicated for less elsewhere. Although I didn't use their stone tile, they do carry some beautiful choices that I have not seen elsewhere. Be sure to get the contractor or designer discount. Makes a huge difference.

FYI, I did not use the NY store mentioned. And, in case Waterworks reads this, you folks need to maintain your stores better. The one I used is looking very tired. Some of the fixture displays are missing parts. Things are scratched to bits. You are selling preciously-priced goods. They should look good in the shop!

The artistic mosaics done by Julia Pasternak 646 573 5070 would look nice installed in a waterworks setting.

They are so lovely, joyful, inspirational, real works of art.

Yes, I saw Julia's work in my cousin's Long Island mansion. She created a tile design for his entranceway that is a circular marble beautiful site. She also installed a mosaic swirl as the bathroom floor. She is a lovely girl, so talented and so young too.
