Design Inspiration from London's Connaught Hotel

Last week's Good Question: Identify Sconces From Connaught Bar? inspired us to dig a little deeper in the Connaught's photo archives, and we're glad we did! The luxury hotel in London's Mayfair Village has emerged from the first phase of renovations and has a distinct contemporary edge for a hotel built in 1897...

1 The Coburg Bar in the hotel — the hotel was originally named The Coburg Hotel (after Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg) and was renamed The Connaught Hotel in 1917 (after Queen Victoria’s third son, Prince Arthur, the Duke of Connaught). I love the dark bruise-like colors and patterned floor and the Julian Opie portraits!

The Eagle's Lodge sitting room — this suite's design has a refined nautical look.
3 The interior of the restaurant Hélène Darroze at the Connaught was designed by India Mahdavi and the blend of contemporary textiles and traditional paneled walls is spot-on.
4 The Connaught Suite's sitting room.
5 The impressive bathroom in the Sutherland Suite!

The goal of the renovation was to create a "distinct sense of place" — remaining loyal to the hotel's history and incorporating a modern element.

I'm far more interested in the Julian Opie drawings than the sconces. They might make a better investment.

I love the David Hicks vibe of that rug.

The sitting areas, amazing. Specially the dark gray paneled wall one. The bathroom.....well.....no doubt excellent marble, but it's like eating two pounds of 73% swiss dark chocolate...extremely good but potencially deadly!!!
