2004_11_6_mondo1.jpgMondo Modern. Mondo Cane is a beautiful, high end modernist store that has just reopened in Tribeca after many years in Chelsea. Besides their rich haul, their store is a showpiece in itself and was just reviewed in The Times:

The components were made with the help of a computer-controlled machine that translated the designs of its architect, William E. Massie, into laser-cut parts, like the 3,000 pieces of steel and acrylic that make up the airy staircase.

2004_11_6_mondo3.jpgMondo Cane specializes in "an eclectic mix of 20th Century design," and features such designers as Harvey Probber, Norman Cherner, Egmont Arens, Eames, Arne Norell, Vladimir Kagan, and Gio Ponti.

Prices are high, with most items @ $2,000. Lamps go for @ $2,000 per pair, an Eames side chair for @ $1,800 and a pair of Carlo di Carli Arm Chairs for $6,500. They stock furniture, lighting, artwork and "objects" and their eye for unique pieces with the sadness and idealism of Mid-Century design is impeccable. (via NYTimes) MGR

The phrase "sadness and idealism" is one of the BEST descriptions I've ever heard for Mid-Century Modern. Bravo!

I am looking for a pair of ladies chairs by Zanuso made by Arflex in the 1950's.
