Marimekko's Kaiku Shower Curtain

1-29-kaiku.jpg
Another find from Columbus. Even though we're big fans of Marimekko and we posted about Textile Arts eariler this month, we were unaware of the Kaiku Shower Curtain until our trip to the Wexner Center Store, yesterday. Kaiku, the popular pattern designed by Maija Louekari is one of a few Marimekko designs also available in 100% polyesterperfect for a shower curtain.

We think our rental's blue-tiled bathroom would benefit from a jolt of early springtime. Available at Textile Arts or support the Wexner Center.

For those who wants to see a closer look, go to local Anthropologie store as they are also selling this shower curtain.

I have been eyeing this shower curtain for momths now (at Zinc Details in SF)! I want it bad but the way my bathroom is configured, it doesn;t make sense for me to use a fabric shower curtain and a liner--I need vinyl shower curtains. Has anyone seen this in vinyl, or just the fabric one?

I've had this in my bathroom for over a year now, and I continue to love it. So cheerful, especially since I don't have a window in my bathroom. I got it at the Marimekko store on the UES. (The people who work there are so snooty).

And I think that it could be used without a liner just fine.

I use mine in a blue tiled bathroom without a liner and without a care. The curtain I picked up from Anthropologie was rather long. Thanks goodness my shower rod could be adjusted. In other short showers the curtain will be dragging on the floor. I'm now looking for the perfect grass green bath mat to match.

This shower curtain makes my bathroom look HUGE, which is wonderful because it is tiny. It also makes my almond-colored fixtures (I'm a renter) look cleaner. Very tranquil on those days when morning came too early.

could anyone suggest a wallpaper and towels to go with the Kaiku shower curtain for a 15 year old girl's bathroom?

I was really excited to see this design, it looked like just the type of curtain I had been searching for and I ordered it at finnstyle.com. I just wanted to mention a couple of things if you are considering this curtain (I should have looked to see if they have it at my Anthropologie like NY Muhtari mentioned). Like pudgy-girl says, the size is slightly bigger than most standard American shower curtains - it's 71 x 79 and most US liners are about 70 x 70 so you may need to raise your shower bar if you can, or get it shortened. (There are about 5 inches of white space at the bottom if you want to shorten it). There is also a line of text on the right side that says "(c) Marimikko OYJ Suomi - FInalnd Maija Louekari 2004: "Kaiku" in bold black letters - you might want to either trim this off or fold it over so you don't see it (this isn't shown on the photos I found on the web). There are 4 inches of white space a the top where the grommits are, so some of the pictures you find on the web are a little deceiving - it looks like the trees flow to the top but they don't. I would like to trim the curtain at the top and redo the grommits, but that would be a bit of a hassle. Finally, the color was a bit more on the lime green side than I was hoping for. There appears to be another curtain posted on http://www.scandinaviandesigncenter.com/Products/usd0/Carpets/Bath room artcles/4037 with a different color palette (blue sky), if you prefer more blue. I think it's still a very pretty pattern, however.
