Top 10: Small Toilets

3-7-purist.jpgMany enjoy space enough for even the largest throne, but if you have a small patch of land for doing your duty, you might want a smaller toilet AND you probably don't want to sacrifice flushability or style. We combed back through a number of posts to find out what the top recommendations were for small toilets. Consider this a starter list. Additions are welcome.

  • Kohler Rialto
...quite pleased. It is compact and flushed well. I would purchase it again if I were re-doing another bathroom. - Lonnstrom

  • Toto Dorian
It's great, nice and small and uses very little water. It has "power flush" and is really quiet. Sasha

  • Purist Hatbox Toilet from Kohler
...You know, it sort of looks like sitting on a small trash can. But it is small.- AT

  • Duravit Happy D
...projects 21.25" from the wall but I think it runs around $1000 and requires a plumber to install the tank inside the wall. - Yen Ha

  • Toto Ultimate
The best small medium priced toilet I've heard of is the Toto ultimate (about 250$ 2 1/2 years ago). I polled residents in my building when I needed to change to a low flow model upon purchasing a unit I'd been renting and this model won. - Jonathan D.

My favorite looking toilet, Starck 2 has been installed by posters to this site:

A toilet off the floor and with as few indentions and crevices as possible for easy cleaning would be my ideal toilet. Also with a lid that pleases both genders.

I have the Toto Ultimate. It's a great economical option and is pretty attractive-looking (for a standard, non-"flashy", non-designer toilet, that is). The compact size makes it ideal for smaller bathrooms and powder rooms. And the "soft-close seat" is a pretty cool feature. (Friends have actually commented on the feature.)

Gotta add the Toto Aquia to the list. It's relatively new, but it's available. Small tank, very nice design, and also a water-saving dual-flush model (so it has a smaller, 0.9 gal flush as well as a regular).

The Toto Aquia is great, it is very popular with our customers at Style Bath & Kitchen. If space is at a premium, and money is not an issue the Toto Neorest 600 is the best toilet for a small space. It's fairly compact, works fantastic, and has a heated bidet seat.

Don't buy a rialto, they are nothing but trouble. low flush which means its takes 3 flushes to flush ANYTHING DOWN and then stuff sticks to the bowl. the seat is plastic and has a hard time staying on. It also runs all the time.. mine is only 6 months old.. a search for rialto shows that my complains are common....

Duravit manufactures some of the most compact toilets. The starck 3 range has a wall mounted toilet which projects only 47 cms from the wall (220209) and is reasonably priced despite being a Phillipe Starck design. Even their couple closets have an average projection of about 65 cms.

i agree about the rialto. just does not flush well enough. but it is the least deep (25 ") on available..hard to find anything that size.
