4-23-abc1.jpgHow could we have forgotten? When we interview clients, we always ask them to name their favorite home store in NYC. About 75% of the time the answer is ABC.

After years of growth (over 100 actually) from a simple carpet store, ABC became a huge, delicious house and home emporium under the direction of owners Paulette and Evan Cole and has continued to grow its eco consciousness under Paulette Cole's sole guidance (they split and Evan started up HD Buttercup in LA)...

With two stores across the street from one another, the home store is a world-wide boutique of home furnishings with stores-within-stores for retailers like Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, ReGeneration and Ralph Lauren. The carpet store has a similar mix of world-wide styles and includes wall to wall carpet. Prices are mid to high, service is agressive but generally excellent and the basement sells remnants for a fraction of the upstairs prices.

It can be a bit overwhelming. While the same clients who praise the store also say it's mainly for "window shopping" and would do their whole house there "if they had the money", ABC has regular sales and warehouse sales that are not to be missed.

I love ABC and would like to check out HD Buttercup.

I just wish they offered SOME THINGS online. I don't get to NYC that often.

HDB is very disappointing. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING like ABC .. very empty feeling. Seems more "branded" just .... well not even blah .... just beige, not even a greige in sight!

rosesbooboo -- been to both warehouses & definitely worth a visit. As you can imagine, merchandise changes all the time -- you never know what will be there. I also have been to some of their furniture warehouse sales in Jersey City & bought a dining room buffet-type piece of furniture for well less than 1/2 of the list price at ABC.
