3-27-dc.jpgHector Zarate and James Nixon started Toro Mata as a stand at Eastern Market, specializing in Peruvian home accessories, and relocated to Adams Morgan a couple of years ago.

This is where to go once you’ve installed your new Lack shelves and need something unique to put on them...

Hector and James stock imports in a wide variety of styles, all made by artisans in Peru, so you’ll find things like traditional black-and-white chulucanas pottery as well as colorful contemporary art. This is a great place to find exotic stuff to mix in with the usual home fare, and the shop’s white walls and gallery-like lighting show off everything impressively. Hector is really friendly and knowledgeable (haven’t met James yet), and local delivery is free. >> www.toromata.com

definitely. if I were in Washington, I'd stop by. The web site is a bit difficult to navigate.

This is my neighborhood and now I feel bad that I have never been in the place:( I guess I should check it out. There are several really neat home furniture and decor shops in Adams Morgan including Sky Near, Pixies, and the Brass Knob.

I love this store and the owners are great. I visited a couple of months after leaving DWR. They offered me tea, let me pet the dog and made me feel so at home. I bought some ChoCho beads for good luck and to ward off evil spirits. It seems to be working.

dog! I must return for a visit...

BTW, Miss Pixies (no relation) has moved off 18th St and will soon open at 14th and R - I was there when they were vacating the place on Sunday (or was it Monday). The new place may have a cafe, although not right away.
