Vynil Wall Graphics

5-9--v-top2.jpg

From France comes yet another scintillating alternative to decorating your walls when paint or wallpaper is not an option (or you just want to do something different anyway). Vynil stick-on graphics are the brainchild of Stéphane Aurriubergé and Christine Montard, who opened Domestic, their "publishing" house for design last year...

Each of these designs is by a different artist (there are 9 artists), they can be mixed and matched and can be easily applied and removed. However, Domestic does say they are not responsible for "wall spoiling." Purchasing is a bit dodgy, but you can order from Domestic via the web. (via ID Mag)

Is there a spray adhesive on the market that would allow you to design your own vinyl creation and stick it to a wall with minimal damage? I would love to do this to a wallpapered wall of mine.

Try 3M ReMount Repositionable Adhesive Aerosol,if you want a spray adhesive or Hermafix removable adhesive.

The moma store sells at least one of these designs, http://tinyurl.com/hrct5, in its online store and at the moma design store in soho. If you want to see the vinyl stickie in action, the Soho store has the fifth pattern, the one that looks like a 60's geometric art explosion, on its walls downstairs.

Does anyone know how easily these can be removed after you're done with them?

How much?

Vinyl is pretty hard to get on if you aren't willing to commit to it. And once it's on there, it's on there and won't come off unless you scrape it off with a razor blade. I imagine these are quite expensive given the size, and relatively complicated to apply. I even freak out trying to get a 6" piece on straight. But hey, they're gorgeous. (Omigod, I just looked at the MoMA price. $35 for 2.5"x2.5"!!!!) If you want cheaper and custom-made vinyl graphics, I highly recommend http://www.ilikevinyl.com. The guy is cheap and professional.

I ran across another Parisian group that designs artistic wall decals. They had a line of graphic tree trunks and a line of branch sillohettes. Does anyone know what this company is and where their web site is? I couldn't find it again.

they actually seem to be movable - the adhesive seems to be (on touch) on par with a fresh post-it note, but it really does stick to the wall nicely. and once you pry up a corner, they come right off.

has anyone purchased any of the graphics from the place in France? i love the designs but i'm not thrilled about giving out my bank account info. any suggestions for purchasing vynil designs on this side of the pond?

sorry, to be more specific, I'm looking for the designs from Vynil, not walldesign. thanks!

I found some of Vynil designs selling at the Urban Outfitters website. They don't have it at the store. Another wall decal place I found was Blik.com.

I received some of the French vynils designs (Potato Queen) and I found they were great! Quite easy to install (don't expect that it'll be done in 2 sec, you need to be patient) and the effect is just amazing! I have put this vid online if you wanna see the result.

Ubran outfitters has some good ones. Alot of the stuff out there is pretty standard. Seems like everyone has the basic circles and geometric shapes. One company that actually has some very unique designs is http://slicksticks.com The people there have an art background. Anyways, good luck with your wall graphic projects.

These vinyl wall graphics are awesome but there is so much more out there. I own a vehicle graphics company and have been working with vinyl for eight years. I am getting ready to opens new doors to interior wall graphics. I am willing to help anyone out there who may have questions or want their own custom designs transfered. We can also print digital vinyl (photo quality) wall graphics. I welcome any and all thoughts and questions. http://www.fingerprintmediallc.com

I think these are great designs! Also noticed some great ones at:

Removable and don't damage walls. I used the butterfly ones one my daughters room and they look great. She loves them too - keeps going up to them and going "flutter flutter". Bless.

If anyone is interested I have two sets of Zeptonn decals I might be willing to part with. One is the "Invasion" set from Cut it Out! and the other is the "Critters" set in blue from Blik.

http://www.cutitout.nl/kidssets.htm

http://www.whatisblik.com

I bought 3 sets and now realize it might be too much for our boy's room. The "Populations" set from Pop Cling we already put up looks great!

Leave me your email if interested.

Aren't these old news? Anyway, I worked in a store that carried these and they are quite complicated, but they do come off the wall without tearing or pulling up any paint. You can reuse them somewhere else if you are careful taking them off. We moved a large one once in the store and it worked fine, but after the second move it looked a bit tattered. As noted by others, wallcandy (mostly kids themed motifs) are designed to be much more moveable.

I really love some of the Domestic designs and so bought one for my daughters' room. They didn't bother to send a confirmation of receipt email or reference number. 2 months later nothing had arrived and after numerous unanswered emails from me I initiated a paypal complaint and tried to get a paypal refund. Result! They suddenly emailed and the package arrived. I wouldn't recommend buying from them directly but if you do, use paypal so you are protected. I wouldn't give them a credit card number - then you're at their mercy...

Vinyl graphics can be easy to install. It helps if you are using a thicker vinyl and one color. All you generally need is a tape measure (if you are applying vinyl that is multiple color or needs to be aligned with anything) and a surface cleaner. Vinyl usually can be removed from walls easily and leaves little if any damage.

My husband and I own a design vinyl signage business and when I learned, I got the hang of it in about an hour. It is really easy.

And as a shameless plug for my company ;)
For those posters who are possibly interested in designing their own wall or window graphics it can be affordable. We do custom vinyl graphics starting at $8 sq. ft. with a $25 on-time cutting fee. http://www.creativeagentdesign.com/new-flyer-signs.jpg

I found these exact decals at LOFT in Shibuya, Tokyo. We bought the second design (the pink/brown/beige trees) for around $70. Haven't put them up yet but I can't wait until I do! The design is going up in our pink closet. This weekend perhaps?
